Strange question for a sled site but I figure there are likely lots of bigger guys on here with messed up backs and what not. Where do you guys buy your mattresses? Brand preference?

Kingsdown, you can also get the floor model from them, plush on one side for the missus and firmer on the other side.

Sterns and Foster also make quality mattresses. Thier plush was to soft for me, the firm is quite good but took a bit longer to break in.

Sleep Country as well. We used to have a Queen (pretty sure it was a Sealy Posturpedic), the softest one you could get at the time, it was by far the best mattress I've ever slept on for my back. It was a thick one with the coil springs on the bottom and the memory foam on top. You kinda of sink into it and then it just supports everywhere, which seemed really counter-intuitive, but it worked for me.

We sized up to a king a few years back and cheaped out on another brand at a local mattress store (not even sure what brand it is), and it's just not the same.

They are all grossly overpriced but they all go on sale for 50% off at some point. We just bought one, with retail at $3100 and it was on sale for $1500. Sleep Country was the most expensive with the least amount of sales. Costco has a great return policy and good pricing, but crappy selections for what my wife thought. Leon's is where we ended up as always some type of 50% sale with most high end brands and lots of floor selection to at least sit on one before dropping $2000. We got a plush. Firm was pretty hard, but might just be the different brands.

Pillows make a big difference too, used to get neck pain and headaches all the time, Sleep Country sold me on some expensive memory foam pillow, and it works really well, neck pain is mostly gone and so are the headaches. Had to replace it a couple days later, the wife stole the first one.

that's my next investment, is a good pillow, tired of the cheap ones that only last a few months before becoming flat pieces of garbage

Bingo on the pillows. Never broke a bone, but I’ve had some severe violent crashes that have twisted my neck many times. Hundred dollar pillow is a must for me now. All trips I bring my own.

Beds to me always a crap shoot, have spent $1000-$2000 and shot in 3-5 years, Costco $500 crap in 6 months (returned it which was cool), current one sealy from all places local appliance store going on 8 years still good, $1500. I always go firm and add a topper if needed. Good luck.

same experience with an Ikea mattress. Was 1300 and a week later bought this for 1300 from sleep country. Looking at yours I Should have got the postupredic
they only charged me 1300 tho for this

We bought a 14” bed in a box from Costco last year for our cabin and I get the best sleeps on that thing. Not sure on longevity yet though.

I got tired of the short lifespan of any matress we have owned so I bought an expensive one last time around. It did last longer before sacking out but still after afew years the foam top layer packed down. I bought a 21 ft zipper from Amazon and glued it with Goop to the outter face of the matress. After drying I unzipped it and then cut through the matress so I could pull back the top layer. I replaced the foam on my side only as the wife was still happy with her side. Its been a couple years now and I am ready to unzip it again to add some foam in some strategic places for comfort. Some may think this is a lot of work but I think matress shopping and changing them out is a lot of work too.

Yes a matress topper is good but if the bed sags already a soft topper can make it feel like it is sagging even more.

We have had a Casper bed for about 10 years now. Thought it was pretty good at the start. Eventually started getting hip pains as the mattress compressed so added a letex topper, hate memory foam. They have updated designs and there is good competition in that space now. Recently stayed at a place that had a futon mattress with memory foam topper. I slept really well! No pains! Go figure.
