I found this story and video of how things can go wrong at accident scenes.

Graphic video: Fire Capt. thrown into guardrail at MVC
wow, that's brutal. I think there may be a few things that could have been done differently there, I didn't see any emergency vehicles on the other side of the divider that would slow down the traffic, that responder was standing in a spot he shouldn't have with no visibility of the traffic coming towards him. he's lucky he wasn't killed.

Yes very lucky...
Always room for improvements on safety. We find a lot of people look at the accident and drive the direction they look.
So not paying attention.

I don't envy that part of your job, it amazes me how people don't slow down for responders or emergency vehicles. they created the 60 km/hr law when passing but it sure seems no one abides by it. it's a little better up here on the 2 lane stuff, almost everyone slows down when passing RCMP, ambulance, tow trucks, and highway maintenance guys, but on the 4 lane no one seems to slow at all. I'm no first responder but I have to load broken down trucks on the shoulder of the highway at least a half dozen times a winter, it scares the ch!t outta me sometimes. I asked a DOT that had me pulled over south of Donnelly Corner about the law when vehicles were whizzing past while he was weighing me with his portables and he said "no one slows down" and seemed resigned to that fact. some people are such inconsiderate pricks with no regards for anyone else.

It all happened due to tail-gating sheep...the worse the weather the more people act like sheep.

...somewhat off topic...why does virtually nobody keep right unless passing on QE2? And the majority of the time when it opens up to 3 lanes the far right lane is totally empty.

They are members of the left lane club....

Left lane club members do not need mirrors, and always repeat the phrase slow down. They usually have had way more than one accident and a clean driving record.

Did a 9hr round trip from Athabasca to Red Deer that day, towing a boat on the way home. I saw so many accidents happen in front of, and behind me it was unreal. Even towed a Ambulance out of a approach. Made it, but if was the craziest drive I've ever done....should have stayed home but way to excited to grab my boat!
