Was reading up on my new Barryvox S transceiver and it states to NOT have anything magnetic on your person within 20 cm in send or 50 cm in search mode of the transceiver. I believe I read somewhere on these forums that the tether on your Alpha 1 is a magnetic system, just curious if the magnet is on the tether cord or part of the machine? If it is on the end of the tether, could it possibly hinder a search and rescue?
You Cat folk may want to look into this..

Good info. My ortovox S1+ mentions nothing about that. Will have to do some reading

Thanks Dazzler... you raised a very good point! I have some homework to do as I definitely wouldn’t want to hinder a search for someone or myself.

As for 509 magnetics ... Is it healthy to have by you’re brain hours on end?

This is the interference literature on the Barryvox S transceiver. Maybe other transceivers are different.

You guys are really splitting hairs here, how about all the goggle brands that use a magnet quick detachable lens system, magnetic helmet straps, magnetic jacket closures instead of buttons, what about this magnetic adjustable clutch weights....... ass if it’ll make a difference

Just passing on the info for those that may be concerned, the only thing magnetic on my sled would be my personality!! :)

Magnetic jacket closures have been mentioned as a bad idea with certain beacons. Not because of interference with searching so much, but because their on/off and mode switches are magnetically operated and can be triggered inadvertently. The other issue may be if the beacon has a magnetic compass built into it for tracking it can be rendered useless.
