The only thing I dont like about the M8 is the diamond drive. Having said that the only thing I doo like about the XP is the chaincase.

Nothing wrong with either IMHO. It boils down to personal preference, and where you ride. Personally, I rode REV's until the XP came out, wasn't fond of the riding position, so I purchased an M1000, and bought an M8 the following year for my wife. Diamond drive "issues" have been non existant, but I do service the DD every 500 miles. 09 - up had some bearing issues from what I've heard, but easily fixed with parts from BDX. This year I'm on a M1100T, and the wife on a ProRMK - it will take a bit getting used to coming off the M-chassis, but no regrets thus far.
The XP is a more versatile sled as it handles better on a choppy trail then the M-series and is more foregiving when "trail riding" then other mountain sleds, and they do climb like a billy goat in stock form. The M-series requires less body english to initiate a sidehill then the earlier XP's from my experience, but with the 36" ski stance the XP handles quite well off trail.
My suggestion is to ride both, and buy the brand that has a good local dealer, as service is key to any sled model. All of them are "junk" when they are down for repairs...

My vote goes to the m8,I have ridden both as my riding group has several of each sled. The m8s haven't had any catastrophic breakdowns, but drawbacks include heavy steering around corners on the trail and lots of fouling on the plugs when low speed technical riding, descents etc. You need to keep burping the throttle to keep the plugs clean. The xp's seemed to climb and hookup the best but the shocks didn't seem to hold up, needing to be rebuilt often. The powertek motor has good power but at 2500 km the top end went, something to watch for. Both machines work well, comes down to rider preference. I am more comfortable on the m8 ,geometry seems better. Good luck with whatever you choose, hopefully you don't get a lemon!
