hello everyone, i am looking to buy a new sled and have my choices narrowed down to either a 2009 M1000 or a 2010 M8. looking for some opinions from anyone who has rode both sleds or knows a little more. i prefer tree riding and want a good handling sled that with lots of power out of the hole. also wondering if anyone knows the actual weight difference between the two sleds. right now im leaning toward the 1000 just because of price, but i dont want a sled that is a lot heavier. any input would be appreciated.

pretty well 30 lbs across the board...but..there is no replacement for displacement....now saying that..the 2010 hp is real close to the 1000....the 1000 can really bark when you add some mods down the road...most dont ride full out all the time and the m8 has alot of power and is nice and light...weight does not mean much when you are running full out.

I rode both the last 2 years...2010 m8 by far.the lightweight crank gives instant throttle response for boondockin and heaps of power...Reccomend a slightly better helix for the secondary..(both sleds)

hey man I had a 2009 153 m1000 good sled over all good power for stock, when i put the full speedwerx pipe kit, reeds, clutching, venting, the 1000 had really good power for all motor, but the bad thing i found with the 1000 it was so nose heavy but good sled tho, got a 2010 m8 162 snopro now alot better sled for in the trees good power all around hit the gas man and it well spin up to 8200 rpm real fast, what i found better it was so much lighter feeling than my old 1000 but the 1000 had way more bottom end grunt tho,i am putting twin jaws pipes, reeds, venting, clutching on the m8 so well see how good it well be when i mod it, but either way u well like either sled have fun man....cheers

I have rode both as we rented '10 M8's lastseason and i have a '08 M1000 myself. I can say that yah the 1000 is a hair heavier but all's i've done to mine is a full speedwerx exhaust some clutching and a 3 degree timing key and it flat out hauls a$$.. Easy to go thru the tree's and with the timing key this thing revs like an 800. With the primary spring i run my clutches engage at about 2900rpm and then it pulls like a freight train out of control from there and i run it at 7800rpm. The biggest problem i had last season was tryin to keep the skis remotely close to the ground. And i loved it last year having to open the hood to prove to guys that i didn't have a turbo on it.

I agree the m1000 is the way to go. Lose for a mesh or gut that 40 lb hood, get an air box (-6lb), and drop 14 lb with an aftermarket exhaust, go from 164 hp to 190hp with an exhaust system. A m8 and a rev 800 mod spent 3 hours trying to get up a 3k feet mountain at turnagain pass, ak and my M10 (stock at the time) blew his doors off hands down! Now that I have mods on it I am much lighter and way faster than any m8. its an obvious choice to me. I LOVE the torque. I also had a 07 m8 141 which was better for jumping and days when the snow was crappy which happened sometimes, but when it was steep and deep like the day in this picture when I first got it, that thing was freakin awesome.

We have been looking at the 09 M1000 vs the 2010 M8 as well. There is a great price on an 09 M1000, but I am not sure if the 153 or 162 is the way to go. The sled would be used mostly riding trails, flats and the occassional mountain outing. What are your thoughts on track length for the M1000? TIA.

If u like riding the trails and the flats u would like the 1000 just flat out pulls hard for stock and better when modded i would go with a 153 abet better for trails and bumps and stuff....but i love my 162 m8
