Ok. I'm new to this forum and I've been reading up on a lot of peoples problems with the clutching in a 1000. I have recently bought a m1000 sno pro and since have encountered similar problems. I'm not the best mechanic but I'm looking for advice. I'm in fort Mac, (I think the elevation is like 1500ft or something:S), and I do most of my riding here. The dealer in edm told me it's set up for about 8500ft or so. I find she lacks the snappiness off the bottom end. All I have done to it is a mbrp can and a speedwerx air box. My old man has a 1m 900 and she pounds me on the rivers. I have t tried her in the mtns yet but I'm not too worried about that right now. I don't care how much it costs I need something that is going to be more respectable. Can someone please advise me on what clutching setup I should go with and possibly where to get them? I traded in my m7 in hopes of having the upper hand in the family competition but it seems with my current set up, the 1000 fairs no better. Even advice on killer power add on combinations will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

To start with what year 1000 is it? I run a 1000 myself and it flat out rips. What rpm are you getting at wide open throttle?

It's a 2008. Sorry I thought I put that in there aha. My Rpms I'm not 100% sure on, I think it's about 75-7600. I'm taking her out tonight when I get home from work and i will post back a definite answer. Also I noticed that she sputters a bit during back shifting. Depends on the temps I find. Few days ago it was like -25 and she would literally shut off or almost shut off if I didn't feather the throttle to keep it going during back shifting. I poured some gas line antifreeze in it and I'm gonna see tonight if that helps.

I am also curious about what weights to put in my machine. I am at about 1300' and my sled is stock. The chart in the sled says run 75g weights. What RPM should I be getting at WOT?

A 1000 with stock exhaust you want it to rev no higher than 7400 rpm. If it does it's past it's peak power rpm.So optimum is to have it hold 7350rpm.

The two biggest things that you can upgrade on your sled to make it work ALOT better is the track and the exhaust and sec clutching. The stock '07 and '08 tracks were really soft so especially on hard pack they tend to just spin rather than hook up. And witha speedwerx or slp exhaust system they are good for probably an honest 15-20hp gain. And the RK TEK sec clutch kits work extremely well on these, i run one on my sled and love it and i have sold alot of the clutch kits and guys love them.

If you look under the hood theres a chart that shows the recommended drive and driven arm weights, spring, cam and spring for the secondary etc. If you dont have this I'll run out to garage and write it down for ya

I can't speak for him but I have no charts on mine. Previous owner must have thought he was a tough guy and removed it :p
If it's not too much trouble I wouldn't mind seeing cats recommendations

for 0-3000ft altitude on the drive clutch you should have a purple spring and 85g weights and the driven clutch you should have stock 46/40 cam (helix) with an orange spring. Just double check what you have

Ted At Terra Alps Racing has a wicked set up for the M1000. It involves changing the spring in the primary, installing a new helix, and 83g weights. I put this on my M1000 and it made a very big difference. If your interested I am selling my d&d pipe set up and boondocker controller for $700, it rips with this setup. Attached is the sticker from my sled. I never even noticed it there. So we need 75 Gram weights. What does changing the helix do?

Just a note this decal is only relative if the '07 still has the original 4 weight primary clutch. The '08 and newer ones are 6-tower(3 weight) clutch and if it has ever needed replaced it would have had the 6 tower clutch installed so the weights will be different i'd post a pic from my '08 M1000 but the sticker isn't there anymore.

Thanks for adding that, yes it is a 4 weight clutch.

Went out searching for weights in the thriving metropolis of Brandon MB, the moronic cat dealer doesnt stock any weights. Are all sled clutch weights the same, I want to ride this weekend.

Maybe ebay and have them overnighted?

Is it worth the money for adjustable weights?

You need ones specifically for that clutch. And yes the adjustables are worth it in my opinion. I have a set of dalton adjustables that'd work for you, they go from 67.5g to 75grams. So if you go to the hills they'd work and they'd work down low.
