lucky to be alive!

everyday I go for a walk to get away from my desk and stretch the legs. My office is on 3 acres mostly treed lot in town. I went to the back end of the property and all of the sudden crash bang boom a brown bear is charging after me!!! Only one way out as both side is an uphill and I am in a gully. I took 4 steps backwards and she is charging again with about 40 ft between the two of us. I turned around and ran like a SOB to the office which is about 600 ft away. Made it back and my assistant had the crazy worried face on and I finally told her what had happened. We got in her SUV and drove back there and sure enough momma brown bear with a cub no more than a foot high. Because we are in town I called the conservation officer and he said if she wanted me for lunch she would have done so. Her actions were simply to tell me back off buddy!!! I will be 47 on Sat and never thought I could still run so fast!!! Funny now but not so funny 2 hrs ago!

Glad the bear only bluffed, I would hate to see her get shot because she was protected her baby. Hopefully she moves off deeper into the bush and away from us nasty humans.

I agree 100%. Conservation officer said if she becomes a nuisance they will have to remove her being in town etc. I said to leave her alone and I will stay away for the time being and give her space. As it gets warmer hopefully she moves to higher ground.
