I am up right now thanks to an architectural flaw/issue that allows my new metal railings on my deck to reverberate in the wind. This is the second time since we've moved in....the wind has to be high and at juuuust a certain angle and the railing on my deck fricking hums LOUD! Anybody else ever get this? What to do about it? Makin' me crazy!

What kind of material? If it's the Hollow aluminum stuf,I would remove afew of the clip on
pieces that go between the upright's and spray in a little foam.

You were crazy long before the humming rails !!! I had this at a previous home and I ended up changing the rungs out and going with glass panels, that worked for me but wasn't cheap....

I believe you but to be honest, I have never heard of that as a problem.

The first thought is that something is loose and my guess would be the spindles. Check to see if the last clip pieces (that would be the smaller clip pieces) are tight. In other words, are they pushing the last spindle tight into the other spindles. Another quick thought and I don't want to sound like Cyle, is that the wind hits them just right (like you said) and maybe you have to be smarter than the wind. If you were to zip tie a 2x4 to the posts to deflect the wind differently (only as a temporary measure) and see if that makes a difference.

Claudes idea about the glass panels would probably work, but like he said, "it is expensive"........good luck kind sir!

If it's anything like a ladder rack, make sure there are no open tube ends anywhere. Sounds like blowing across the top of a beer bottle? Spray foam should work, like already mentioned.

Look at the top large tube. At the ends or at the corners. The wind can get in the small opening. This causing a hum or whistle sound. You may have to seal the ends so no wind can get inside the tubes.

"For the price of a cup of coffee and a Danish per day", they can fix it for you.....love that analogy....they never say how many days / years they are comparing it to

Next time it's windy I'll come over and drink a bottle of Captain and crash on your couch....that should cover up the resonant noise from the railing.

If they are hollow can you take them apart and fill them will spray foam? Might be just enough to make them stop humming! That's a crazy thing that they hum!
