Loose Exhaust Springs from Y-Pipe to Pipe

Just finished putting back together my 2016 Cat for the up-coming weekend and noticed that two of the four springs which hold the y-pipe and pipe together are significantly looser and actually a different spring all together. There is oily residue spray on the engine itself which I feel like has come from a loose / bad seal at the gasket between these two pipes due to the loose springs.

Anyone else had this before? The sled has 200miles and I wouldn't think the Original Owner changed springs by mistake or put the wrong ones back on but I am going to order two new springs to see if this seals better. If not, then I guess I'll try a high temp gasket sealant?

Would seem weird if the sleds come like this from factory...

I've heard their springs are lower quality than others. Run copper RTV over them too that's common on cats but not needed on Doo.

I think I'll do that. I hate having an oily engine bay. makes a heluva mess. Got 2 new springs I'm gunna pick up today and maybe do the gasket sealant as well.

I was breaking and stretched the original springs. Went to doo springs, broke them. Ordered new Cat springs and was careful not to over stretch them during install, been good for 2 years now. RTV won’t work if the springs are loose. Obvious-I know

I was talking about a bead of rtv on the stretched spring to dampen vibration (uh oh here comes Kanedog) not RTV on the lead donut gasket. If the donut won't seal with fresh springs and some good heat from a couple riders try a light layer of grease it will burn on and seal.

Interesting idea... you know we all hate Cat harmonics..

Would that bead still work if the springs are removed and re-installed? Or would it have to be replaced every time the springs get taken off?

should be one and done as long as it bonds to the springs.

It will always bond to the springs!! Wipe some high temp RED on the springs the whole length. Takes out the vibration of the springs between each coil.
it will stay on the spring for many removals.
Put the springs on so they are stretched THEN put the high temp on the springs.

I did it on a doo once and it didn't bond. Too much belt dust on the springs lol!

I have been using the red hi heat for years and it works great. The key here is not to over stretch the springs on install. It is easily done.
