Looking at buying older sled this winter

Well as the title says I am looking at buying a sled for this winter I have ridden the mountains a couple times over the years on borrowed sleds
my max budget would be aprox $4500 so I know I am looking at the year range of 2004 or older I guess
Would like to have at least a 151 track as most of the use would be for the mountains maybe a little bit of ridding west of rocky if there is enough snow
i am interested in all brands at this point as I am not set on one yet at this point looking to her the good and bad and what to look for or avoid for the various models
Any input would be greatly appreciated

Get a Rev 800

The Rev 800's were a great sled and came with a 151 track. You shouldn't go wrong with a choice like that.

Should be able to find a decent 04-06 Rev for that price range. Don't discount the 600 though, as it is very capable in the mountains, too. I bought an 07 Summit 600 SDI with 290 miles on it this year for $4300 as a backup / spare sled for the kids. Polaris RMK 700 is a decent ride, and you may be able to pick up an 05-07 M7 or 07 M8 with a few miles for that kind of $$$.
If you're not really versed on what to look for in a used sled, take a buddy with you, and research your future purchase value with kelly's blue book - most stuff advertised for sale is way out to lunch...

What ever you do dont buy a 700 wedge you will be the laughing stock of Snow and Mud.

You can usually find an 05-06 M7 for around that as well. good reliable sled.

What years did the 800 ski doo's have the crank bearing issues and does rebuilding them solve the problem or only fix it for the same amount of time

2007.......mine made 912 miles

Millsy's right. Do your homework before buying a 2007.

Take a look on kijiji, there's a 2008 dragon 700 163 for 4300 obo. That would be a decent sled.

in my instance anyway...ken...anyone...correct me if i'm wrong but having the bolt holes in the pto side rubber mount..rear engine is a tell tale sign its been updated

Go with a rev 800, great sleds. Research the year differences between them. 04/05 had flaking piston ring issues, they should all be fixed by now. 06 was the best year, they hold their value. 07 as mentioned had engine problems

I know they claim flaking rings in 04/05. But man we have 4 guys who have at least 7000 k on there motors and have never changed their rings. That is our standing joke have you changed your rings yet.

Yeah, that would be a great sled for that price. I think the 700s were pretty solid.
