I have been looking at Spot& inreach and have heard some negative feed back with the inreach's plan and the fact when you text out it comes up as some weird# rather than yer pnone # and Spot is a better way to go?

When I text out, I have a special number (it is not my phone number) and that is good. The respondents just reply to the text and I receive the message on the inReach. Phone numbers aren't necessary except for listing the contacts. Hope I made myself clear.

Hi! I've got a Spot 2 and it seems to take forever to send a message and then I'm never really sure it was sent. Consequently looking at the "In Reach" with two way texting capability. Any real life feedback? Suggestions? Thanks!

If the message led light flashes green it means your message was successfully sent. If the light is red it means it was unable to send the message. The same applies to the gps led indicator.
I haven't used an inreach but thought I would let you know.

I think the plan with the inreach is better, you can call them and have your account put into "sleep" mode for 99 cents per month, for whatever service level you choose. spot you pay the yearly fee, whether you use it or not. I have owned a spot, there's no way a spot is the "better" device. service plan or function, the inreach is better in my opinion. your mileage may vary

The "sleep" mode is great. One can choose to suspend the plan for the summer or various months and with the click of the mouse it can be back and operational.

I am with teeroy on the SPOT! It is not the same as the inReach and doesn't have the two-way communication so how can it be "the better" way to go?

Hi Dan, that would be great if you can get additional feedback from your buddy! Don't mind spending money as long it is a legit upgrade. Appreciate hearing his concerns or experiences, if nothing else will help me to ask good questions of the InReach dealer. BTW, thoroughly enjoy following your Revy winter adventure! Thanks for posting.

For sure, Ill ask him when he comes out sledding here pretty soon, I talked to him for about a half hour about them at Christmas time he has a ton of experience with both and he me sold on the spot. I forget the exact issues he had with inreach, but ill ask again.

I also would like to know what his "issues" are with the inreach. I bought mine a week after the iphone version (black box) came out. It's been over two years now and I still love it.

I would say so, you can even set it to "track" every so often if you like. It will set plot points on a map as you or your sled moves.

We tried our new one out yesterday. My wife went to mountain mania in golden. She took the InReach. I am overseas working and we were alble to send messages back and forth. If she had any problems I could try to help. I was able to track her where abouts on the map on the Delorme website which was pretty cool. We could also use it as a tracking device in your truck or trailer overnight to track down thieves if stolen. Worth every penny! I like the fact that I could send her messages from the other side of the world!
