Longtracking my 136" to 144" pros and cons

I'm thinking off adding some length to my 2000 RMK 136" xtralite!
maybe 144" ? not sure about cost or practicality?? My machine only has 450 orig miles on it.. don't want to replace it!
any pros or cons or information on this topic would be hugely appreciated!

i have the same sled, but it was long tracked right when my dad bought it to a 144, and its awsome, dad changed the gearing and some clutching to it

If it was me I would definately make the conversion. The 136 is the new short track where the 144 will work better as an all around sled. Vintage does not make a difference as long as you are out using it. Just thing of all the riding you can do with the money saved by longtracking as opposed to replacing the machine. If it was me I would definately make the conversion. The 136 is the new short track where the 144 will work better as an all around sled. Vintage does not make a difference as long as you are out using it. Just thing of all the riding you can do with the money saved by longtracking as opposed to replacing the machine. Call Backus Racing at Mara BC 250-838-7611 They will be let you know if you need a tunnel Ext. Kit, plus cost of a track. If you need rail ext and tunnel ext. I have one out of 96 ulta I had convverted from a 133.5 to 144. When I sold it I changed it back. :d

just do it! no cons at all. Buddy of mine just changed his wifes trail RMK(07) (550 fan)from a 136 to 144. Didn't need to extend the tunnel,you will need to re-gear and clutch it.Then we took the 136 and stuffed it under my wifes 2000 Indy (550 fan)! The 121 got torn outs there,geared and clutched.......WOW what a different machine!!!!!!Oh the extensions were from SLP,very nice kit.

PM wildchild on this forum. He is in Lumby and does excellent work for a reasonable price. You shouldn't need an extension or gearing to start. I went 136 to 144 with stock gearing(21/41) on a 99 700 RMK and it worked great. You need a tunnel extension to go longer than 144.

Cat roller is a great addition for your sled.

If your sled has the extra-lite skid I have a set of 144" rails that are cut for extraverts and a tunnel extension and a used 144" track. I went from 144" to a 153" track last year on my 2001 800 rmk.

i put a 151 on my 98 rmk 700 and didnt change the drivers or touch the clutching and still pulls up the climbs no problem

adding the 8" of track will end up with an additional 4" on the ground..
not sure if it will make that much of a difference except for the added cost??
If you got the money the sky is the limit !!
I would suggests that a more agressive track would be a better way to spend your dollar and get the same outcome.

I still have the exact same sled as you and did the rail extensions and big wheel kit right after the first ride as I was dissapointed in the performance! No need for tunnel extension all you have to do is put a small piece of aluminum under your snow flap to keep it from getting sucked under. I also put on the A/C secondary, SLP twin pipes, K&N filters w snow chargers and a digitron and it works great! Only thing I would do now is put on a 16"x144" it will make a big difference I give credit to BRP they have that figured out! Its my sons sled now, next upgrade lightweight hood and seat.

there is two cons going from a 136-144 first is it will cost some money (little bit) and second is it will add weight! I think these two cons over rule the better climbing but if your going to go bigger go with something bigger than a 144! we have a 2000 700 RMK that my dad runs (74 years old) and he can lift it and it goes more places than he wants to go. I have a 151 on my 900 and that dam thing is so heavy when I get stuck I need a helicoptor to get me out. I love the 136x2 on his 700 and want to trade him sleds but he said nope!

Ok so here is how it turned out!


I bought a tunnel and rail extention kit for my 98 Indy 488fan cooled from slp for $279.00 us. to go from 121 to 136" the kit makes it look stock..
will have to re-gear it!
I used the 136" X2" track off my 2000 RMK to complete my 98.
I then bought a used 144" track (which I found on this website!) and an slp 136-144" rail extentions for $79.00 .. no tunnel extention required, or gearing!
So now I have long tracked both machines for under $1000.00 :common001Thanks to everyone for your comments. they were helpful !! :
