I would say they are not that weak I have crashed mine hard enough that it took out left side a arm then hooked flipped upside down bending the bars and the steering post and those carbon tubes survived sometimes there is just bad luck and sometimes the hits are bigger then the story portrays but on the flip side if ur a good customer at ur dealer they should take care of u I know my dealer would

Ya, but why drill or punch 1/4" holes in a CF tube just to zap strap some wires. The ones that break start here. Other side is the same and no wires to attach there. I think it will be different soon.

Next time you have your side cover off (I love how you don't have to do that often lol) put your hand on the tube near that hole and turn the bar full lock to the left and give it a little push. You may be surprised what you feel.

Anyhow, my point is if it breaks at that hole and nothing else around it is bent, it should be warranty. There is a hole in the wrong spot. I'm not waiting or expecting mine to break there, but if it does and my dealer says no from Poo, they will not be to happy with where I go from there.

Other than that point and the tunnel to bulkhead connection this is a tough sled. The rest of the package is just gravy.

I wish thts how it went for me! No single sign of damage any where on the sled nothing else bent no dents anything. But when the mechanic at my dealer was on the phone with Polaris they flat out said NO warranty on that peice for any customer because they could only break from abuse or hitting the handle bars too hard... The carbon tubes are 450$ I sam in no way. Omplaining about having to pay to fix the sled I know it's an expensive hobby. I am just majorly unhappy with Polaris that the part was defect from factory the dealership tells them this and all they say is tough. We're doing nothing. Really
makes a guy question what make his next ride will be!

I have been watching for carbon failures since they went to this design. Not so that I could say I told you so, but to make a decision for my next sled. Anyone who knows me, knows I love my Doo's, but I have also been vocal in saying the RMK's do obviously do somethings better.

Last year I borrowed a Pro for awhile. The rear bumper blew apart on one ride when it got bumped. I have always been cautious of carbon. Aluminum has an ability to flex. Carbon not so much. Having a hole in any part of a carbon tube will lead it to being weak.

There are better ways to use carbon. Sure using tubes is cheaper than creating carbon hoods and gauge pods, but I would rather have a chassis that can flex.

Sounds like your dealer is really interested in keeping your buisness by fighting to get you warranty.:(

They were not sure if the aluminum would fit directly in. Do you know for sure everything would work? There was some mounts at the bottom that held wires and stuff that was different on the 2012 setup. And they told me that I am for sure paying it outta my pocket because Polaris told them no.

Shitty deal !! I'm sure it would fit, just need to take the mounts off the 13's cross member and install onto the aluminum one if needed. And wiring can be ziptied anywhere. So if they are making you pay out of pocket, do they warranty your 2nd overstructure ?

If I were you I would consider (if it becomes an issue I will be changing mine) changing it to aluminum tubes... if you can get a measurement, maybe your local machine shop could supply the tubes and your dealer is willing, they could install them... whether they glue them back in or rivet them.. the 2012's mounting brackets are a little different so would have to purchase the tubes with brackets..

I wonder sometimes why they used carbon fiber in overstructure. How much weight does it save? 1lb? Seems a bit rediculous, especially if it's $200 more.

The cost is passed along to the consumer. Likely one reason why RMK's with the same options were MSRP higher than the Summit this year. A round carbon tube is cheaper to manufacture than other more complicated parts.

1 pound here, another there adds up. It wasn't hard to see that with the weight claims. Does it sacrifice reliability though? Aside from the glue issue I haven't seen many issues. I don't hover around Polaris forums though to know. Just saw this one thread.

I think after the skidoo disaster of 2008 with the light xp and now its looks like Polaris has made the same mistake. The manufactures have to know that these sleds are put through some serious riding and any weakness will come to light. I think not covering the carbon is total BS, and I cant believe they drilled a hole in the support. But I guess they have been installing those POS carbon bumpers for a while now and they last all of 1 trip before they snap so I don't expect any better for the structure.

It is an expensive sport I agree, but we shouldn't have to pay for poor design just so Polaris can say they have the lightest sled.

I have a feeling Polaris is going to hold fast with their design and go for lighter which will be a huge mistake and the Polaris faithful will take the dive with them.

I agree that it is BS why they wouldn't warranty the carbon piece. Especially if nothing else on the sled was bent or damaged, and the holes create a weak point for sure. But there is also a ton of em on the snow with a fair amount of miles with no reports of any breaking. Lighter is better but sleds can only be so light. it is easier to replace a carbon tube then it is to fix a whole bulk head though. I've put my Assault through hell and back and it's held up solid where my 09 XP was so weak and flimsy the bulk head twisted 2" from jumping off small cornices and tagging trees at lower speeds. My buddy had issues with his XM rails bending and bolt in the rear of the skid breaking. Few other reports on snowest about that issue too. So I would think its fair to say that each brand has there work cut out for them for 2014.

The carbon fibre tubes are on back order until the end of the month and the aluminum ones are back ordered also. Yet Polaris has never heard of any tubes break. Then why are so many people needing new tubes! Haha junk

Yes other than a tweak here and there I think you might just be right!! I have 4 of those P.O.S. poo's :) you think I should trade my avy bag in for scuba gear or at least water wings???? for this dive???

Or they are on backorder because they don't break and no one keeps them in stock.....maybe, your the first person that I have heard of breaking them and you admittedly hit something........When I break something because I hit something I just fix it and carry on, I'm not sure I understand the logic in you wanting warranty on this part, maybe I read something wrong. And is your camera broken as well because I would love to see some pictures of this.

Yeah it's a part of snowmobiling you hit snow drifts.. I didn't hit a brick wall.. I wanted warranty because of a failed product that should not of failed. Especially since the rest of the sled was in mint condition. And trust me buddy if I could just fix it and carry on I would. But the parts are on back order from polaris warehouse not because my shop doesn't have them in stock. I guess these sleds are meant to just putt around the back yard eh. Sorry for sounding rude but there is a problem whether you think so or not. Also I have no idea how to upload pictures to this from an iPhone.

IMO you should get warranty. But MO and yours means nothing so take care of it yourself.

If you phone a aluminum fab shop you will find the tube you need and some heat and glue gets you on the snow again. Waiting for a BO release if your paying is silly. Your dealer can do it if you can't.

Speak ill of the pro and you risk the wrath of the believers........No cross words shall be spoken of this noble steed lest the common folk come to realize that it's just another machine.
