Honestly it just becomes "normal" to us after a while. Its still a rush but ive forgotten what "normal" lake boating is to be honest. Thats why I love taking out newbies cause I remember some of my first extreme jet boat rdes and whats its like to learn what a boat can really do in 4" of water.
Downstream you wanna be going as fast as possible to keep the boat up while leaving yourself a lil extra throttle for emergency maneuvers and as much time as possible to think about your "next" move. Its all a tradeoff of course with the one exception that stopping isnt an option, or at least is a very bad one lol Almost equally bad is hesitation on decisions and they often result in sliding gravel.... or worse lol
I'd estimate there the boat is doing 40ish and maybe another 10 river speed added in at times.
If anyone in the calg area wants to go for a rip sometime just send me your info, and trust me, once your addicted to this , you definitely do this sorta thing(and worse) with your own boat LOL
