Have a spin on Google Earth then, doesn't take a PhD to see that almost every part of earth has been affected by some kind of human activity. Logic follows that when the area of a species habit declines so does its population, it also follows that if it's habitat disappears completely it's quite likely it's population goes to 0.

Humans for sure have nothing to be proud about in lots of ways, but Mother Nature has ways of restoring the equilibrium….if you look at big tracts of Vietnam that were devastated by the war and defoliants, lots of them are back to their previous states….that’s obviously not justification for destroying the ecosystem, but for most western nations, the environment is front and centre when considering development….the third world and China however are a different story….

To bad we could not see all the sewage and garbage in our ocean, this will no doubt kill us all in very short time. And we are not doing a dam thing to fix it. Other than ban plastic straws.. what an fn joke that is. A trillion liters of raw sewage dumped in the St lawrence river alone.

So true. You hear about how the ocean is the most important part of our earth but no country or organization has done anything to help this issue. Could it be because they can't tax people...

They don’t do or say anything because the countries that are the biggest offenders for ocean pollution would lock up or disappear any protesters that showed up.

Since the iceberg is already floating it won't change sea levels when it melts.

The Archimedes principle says that a floating body will displace an amount of fluid that is equal to its weight.

Since the iceberg floats, it weighs the same as the water it displaces. If it had the same salt concentration as the ocean, then once thawed, it would occupy exactly the same volume as it displaced and the sea level wouldn't change.

But most icebergs are made of nonsalty water, with a density a bit lower than sea water. So once melted, that same mass will occupy more volume (same mass, less density equals more volume), and the sea level will increase… very very slightly

But water also expands when frozen, so will there be any sea level increase when the iceberg changes from solid state to liquid? Like you said 2/3s is already in the ocean displacing water in a larger form, ice.

I really have no clue, this is way to involved for a rig pig.

Yes water expands when fozen, it is less dense than liquid water that is why it floats. When the burg melts the water level will be the same as before. Go ahead a try this at home with a drink and some ice cubes.

Ok Dan if you say so. Little early for a rum but hey I'll sacrifice in the name of science. Lol
