I am looking to replace the stock tires on my 05 GMC Sierra 2500HD and would like to put larger tires this time (currently have 245/75/16 tires on it). Truck is all stock and it is not lifted. I have heard that larger tires may cause rubbing issues when turning. Anyone know what larger sizes will work without issues?

265/75 R16 work on a stock truck, you can get 2 inch blocks and crank up the
torsion bars and fit 285/75r16 with a slight trim to the plastic part on front bumper

My old man put 265/75x16's on his 07 classic dura. Looked way more beefy and seemed to handle better off road. although he went with bfg's which seem to wear out fairly quick :d

the 265 is a common upgrade. I have the 285 on my 3/4 ton withg the 2'' torsion bar crank up and honestly i didnt notice the ride to be any worse. They will rub a bit while backing up while fully turned, why only in reverse im not sure but other than that i would not hesitate at all to go with the big ones.

We tried Toyo M55 265 75/16's on my 09 2500 and No go! They rubbed on the mud flaps at 3/4 turn already seeing as they are a bit more squared on the sides than normal all season tires. But chances are if your upsizing your not too focused on the all seasons.

i put the 265.75.16 on my 05 2500HD and they run nice. no problems with any rubbing with no modifications done. if i had a couple extra bucks when i did it though, i certaintly would have went with a leveling kit and went a hair bigger. not much bigger cause i don't feel like having a ramp that is near vertical to load off of, but probably some 285s or some new 17inch rims which then can give you bigger tire sizes.

From my experiences...Lots of people can get 285's on a stock 2500hd but the rim width is 6.5" if memory serves me right, which by most tire manufacturer's specs is too narrow of a rim for that tire depending on brand.

That being said I tried 285 BFG's on my 2500 a few years back, I was able to get them on without cranking the torsion bars and never had any rubbing. The Chevy's have a different front bumper than the GMC's and don't curve back as far.

I didn't like the ballooning the tires did when inflated and found they didn't contact slippery surfraces as well. I went back to 245's for the price at the time.

265's is really the max you should run for most brands on the stock rims. Lots of people run 265's with out complaints or wear issues. Not saying you can't run larger, but if you want to run 285's then buy new rims rather than wear out $1200 worth of tires (remember your spare) If I find any pics with the truck having the 285's on it I will post it, it really looked great!
