Is it just me or are suzuki king quads about the worst quad on the market for clutching. Ive put a stronger spring in the secondary and lighter weights in the primary, I have only 25 in mud lights and if I try to keep it tapped out going through a mud hole it doesn't seem to down shift and it'll sit there and bog it's way through. Clutches get cleaned after about every three rides, seems to help but I think this quad is pretty well hopeless. anyone out there seem to have better luck?

I have had my king quad for 5 years now and think there is nothing wrong with the clutching. I have 28 zillas on and did install an EPI clutch kit for the larger tires. One thing I did find out early was this quad has a low range for a reason, I was always going through mud holes in high gear beacuse it wasnt bogging down. Thats not the best for the belt and they arnt cheap.

Totally agree with what bspot said. Useing low gear will save belts and help you through the mud holes also.
Something you might concider doing is the 2mm shim mod. It gives lower gearing but it does take about 6-8 km/h off the top end.

ya once I leave the hi and dry I am always in low gear. But I am not sure what this shim kit is that your talking about, I am interrested, not worried about loosing speed. I have 3000 kms on my quad and I have never blown a belt, I did change it out around 1500 kms though just for maintenace purposes. Thanks for the info.

The 2mm shim mod ia awesome i run 29.5 outlaws with a custom 10 inch lift and can turn them in the skegg in low with no problems, not as good as the vtwin bikes but it dont bog down too bad at all. Coop makes other mods for the clutches for king quads also that make a big difference but i havnt tried them

what spring did you install , and what did the rollers weigh

mine dose upshift fast, but usually before i enter a hole or a log i tap the throttle to preload the clutches

for the coop mod you dont need the yamaha shims , i used a washer the same size (mine was 1.2mm thick instead of using 2mm or 1.5mm)
