Agreed. But you don’t want the bolt to be tight in there either as you want the cover and tower to mate square and have those machined surfaces be what centres it to keep it as balanced as possible. If the bolts pull it one way off centre I see other issues appearing also.

So I rode my sled with the 911 cover and no clutch re-balance.
-no noticeable increase in vibration at all
-with the side clearance on the belt set properly the engagement was so smooth, definite benefit
-no change in peak RPM
Now I have a comfort level that my clutch isn't going to explode and try to kill me or leave me in the back country. There are no heli rescues available where we ride.
I would definitely buy another one of these for my next sled.

So how can the cover with all the holes be the same balance as a 911?

Its not, the 911 cover is heavier as well. We are assuming the balance from the factory is perfect but I don't think it is. I think if a person was to weigh the amount of removed aluminum from those covers it wouldn't weight very much. Aluminum shavings are pretty light. There are so many factors affecting balance on the engine.
-whats the crank runout
-do the pistons weight the same
-do the clutch weights weigh exactly the same

I will take the chance on a slight imbalance to know the clutch will fully close unobstructed and not be distorted causing cracks and eventual failure.

Another one bites the dust, same explosive damage as we have been seeing, clutch cover imbedded into the side panel on this one though. Cat was tagged in the post, how many more will this happen to before someone is seriously hurt?

100s of hours on S&M well wasted.

Heading to the states in a week or two so I’m ordered a 911 cover to have on standby for when mine explodes or it’s off warranty.

BTW our exchange rate sucks. $375 Canadian shipped to the border.

There was some questions earlier about how these are balanced and according to BDX these clutches are assembled and then balanced as one assembled piece so if you have it apart make sure it goes back together with all the pieces orientated the same way.

I would think if you changed a cover or any of the other major components in the clutch it’s probably a good idea to have the assembly balanced after.

The secondary is balanced individually so it appears it doesn’t matter how it goes on the shaft.
