Re: just shows you have fast your life can change

I agree 100% that the driver phucked up! It was not the time or place to put your foot into it, or reach for a ????
But for any of us to speculate what happened at the time of it happening, isn't right either.
Like you said..... "if anythng, people should learn something from this video"
sorry Doug, I didn't mean to sound like I was in any way agreeing with cycle. As one that puts on a lot of miles like yourself, there is times when I will drift across the centerline trying to reach something or write down directions on the fly....but I make damn sure there is no one else around. I see distracted drivers everyday and it sometimes scares the ch!t outta me.

No worries Tee
I understand where your coming from too, and you probably have more miles under your belt than me. I also do try to make my distracted driving chit at the right time too (and we ALL do it!) It scares the ch!t out of me too!
But I have to be honest......... Of all the vids I have ever seen, this ONE has rattled me. And I don't know why?

You ever broke traction in four wheel drive? You have ZERO chance of recovery.

People who drive in four wheel drive faster than the conditions will allow, are looking for a problem.

This accident is caused by what you see all the time. To fast, swerved into the slush, broke traction.

This day and age most accidents are driver related. Not to many are the result of a faulty vehicle.

Yes but it doesn't change the question. If he was in 2wd (which I am DAHM sure he was) all that was needed to avoid the accident was being in 4wd.....The way the vehicle went after it hit that would of been 1000x different in 4wd.

Exactly, if your passing someone in a bad road, you should be fawking pay attention and that's it the road is the only thing that matters. You can bet I have my eyes glued to the road a LOT more when the conditions are bad. Ya if the highway is dry I have no problem looking away, changing cd's etc and will drift into other lanes. But not when the road is like that AND passing someone.

And i'm also not one of those toolbags who doesn't put it into 4wd until they slide on the highway and have a close call, or are on their roof in the ditch......I'll burn the extra fuel and wear on the vehicle i'm not that cheap and dumb.....

anyone who thinks 4wd is the answer to all is horribly wrong, dirivng in 4wd on an icy highway is actually worse than 2wd. if you are in 4wd and you catch traction on the front wheel and it pulls you + the force of the rear wheels pushing you foreward = spinning.....everytime you post your opinion you look like a bigger phuckin moron your critisism of people no matter what the situation isnt just ignorant it proves over and over again of your ego thinking "that couldnt happen to me", "i know better than that" you are truely an idiot....sometimes cycle ch!t happens that is out of your controll no matter how much you know or how good you are. May the people/person in that vehicle rest in peace

4 wheel drive, or studded tires wouldn't have changed the outcome. once he hydro'd on the slush and tried correcting back it was all over. the guy he hit coming back pretty much forced him over into the oncoming lane when he tried to correct his skid from the impact.

2wd versus 4wd????????

The funeral doesn't give a chit where the diff lock was or not!!!!!

You have made many of good post's recently.
But this in one that I won't hold bcak from. And not being a Super Greenie, but from being a person that has to be on the road.
Do you really think that 4wd drive would have prevented this thread???????????????????????????????????

Well I hate to say but I have had to clean up a few of those same types of accidents 3 on HWY 63 alone 2 in the exact same spot long straight stretch of hwy with a what appears to be a small rise in the road but it is actually steeper than it looks and some just have to drive with the cruise on truck downshifts and kicks out the backend 2 have been chevys with that auto 4 wheel coincidence? or not? dash switches said it was in auto. 1 ford ranger blew the tailgate 1/4 mile away only recognized truck by rim and tailgate cops said F150 worse one that I have been too had to shovel away snow from under the rig when we lifted it to look for more bodies rest have been cars/mini SUV's on curves going in to hot on slippery roads.

Re: just shows you have fast your life can change

the situation you describe on the hill happens several times every winter on the west hill in Peace River when the temp drops below -20. people come off the bridge and lean into it for the hill or the cruise kicks down a gear and the back end steps out. the auto feature has to sense spin before it kicks in, and by then it's too late. the auto thing is only good for around town at slow speeds like when you're pulling away from a stop sign, on the highway the only way to go is to be in full time 4wd for crappy conditions.

Honestly...... If your going to drive with cruise on with those conditions, you really shouldn't be on the road! Again.... not trying to be an ass, but wow!
As mattiac, teeroy, mur, plio7, has said, and as I have been the first or second responder on site.
When a person has too look at another person with a shovel, and say where do I start Sir?
There is NO room for trying to figure out what went wrong, but just a "WHOLEY PHUCK!!!!"
We do as humans try to figure out what went wrong, but untill your the driver...... Only YOU will know.

I am sure I seen snow in the center line, and if it was indeed snow, yes it likely would of prevented the accident. Yes I will agree once he started to go it was done no matter what, but 4wd would of VERY likely kept him straight.

Yes a lot of times ch!t happens you can't prevent but I have a hard time believing this is the case here. In the short video, the persons driving looks very very questionable to me right from the start. As I said i'd really like to see 5-10 minutes of their driving prior to this, and it would tell the story if it was driver error for sure or not.

But I will say IF it was kept straight in lane, and didn't drift to the side nothing would of happened. And that is driver error. So ya, it could of been prevented for sure.....

Auto's are almost as bad as cruise control. Big reason why I hate them on icy roads. A downshift at the wrong time and your sideways.

I think it was slush. the dude with the camera has wipers going, and snow doesn't grab a vehicle like that unless it's deep. he obviously over-corrected because of the understeer and when the front got back onto the better traction he was a goner.

Someday when you get all growed up Cyle you will see just how much you dont know in life and sometimes you should just shut the trap and listen to the people that actually know something. When you continuously post the sh!t that randomly comes to your head without thinking about what your posting it clearly sends a message to all that actually read things through to an understanding before responding that you are indeed in need of help.

Off the record and not as a Super Mod

What do you do for a living?
Do you work in a office(and I respect those who do)
Or do you work on the road?
Yes.... you did see snow oin the center line, please tell me how 4wd would have kept him straight, when one goes into a 4wd drive spin. I'm sure you know what that is!

From the begining the driver is in control, and has done nothig wrong untill ch!t happened. 5-10 mins prior would have told you he/she had their foot into it and wanted to make time. Maybe, or Maybe NOT...............................

But if he/she/it would have kept in in a straight line, and the accident would have been prevented. Please explain to me, who is just a regular guy how you think that this could have been prevented???????

I don't agree with everything that teeroy has to post, but in this thread. My brother has my back!!!!

Once again...... This is coming from a person to a person, not a SUPER MOD.

Accidents are preventable!

No I don't work in a office, I have a professional license and drive part time, just to let you know i'm on the road plenty and not one at fault accident ever. Come on, have you never hit a bit of snow on the edge of your lane, tell me if you want to hit it in 2wd or 4wd. Yes it's different at that speed obviously. But even as you said, accidents are preventable, there is no reason to of went out into that part of the lane. Prior 5-10 minutes driving prior would of shown if they where driving good or not. If they were driving crazy, that is a very good reason why what happened, happened.

Ya no one can say for sure what happened, but the video shows pretty well, about 99% chance it was completely driver error.

Sorry to say but i'm sick of shitty drivers who don't pay attention. If they endanger themselves ok, but when they are endangering others that's when I got a problem with it.

Seriously??????????????

You have never once drifted into the snow or a tad bit into a lane, because you had to skip the next song, take a drink of coffee, or anything like that?
If you say "NO", I'll bet more than just me will call BULLCHIT!
I'm not trying to be an azz, but I do put on 5000km's in a month 5 days a week, and I'm far from the perfect driver. What ever the perfect driver is?

HUH?????

I'm tired of shitty part time drivers that want to be a wanna be!
I'm not dissing you.
Once again, not speaking as a Super Mod. But what are you trying to say
As just a guy maybe you should listen to 007sevens and stop while your some what a head ;)

Re: just shows you have fast your life can change

Ok lets look at it at a different angle you have your truck locked 4WD ( like everyone suggests) you have on your winter or studded tires (like some suggested) driving at a safe speed not drifting around in the lane not hitting the snow/slush then all of a sudden.....BAM the guy in the black truck is skidding across the lanes right at you. Like I tell the wife all the time I can only control what I do I cannot control what everyone else does on the road.
I am curious how the truck driver fended in the crash. A crash like that always takes out the steering then they just fold up hopefully it stayed upright buy usually they hit the ditch at a long angle and the ditch pulls it over if it enters the ditch steep hope there is enough snow to get it stopped before it reaches the tree line cause they always seem to hit drivers door 1st with all the weight pushing it

I have always said the drivers test is a joke they last 1/2 hour about 5KM in actual "driving" it is usually on a bright clear sunny days no dusk/nights no hwys and 1/2 of your score is based on a parallel park .....seriously how many people die each year from parallel parking?
