Is adding a pipe to the axys worth the money? Is the power only added at the top end. Does it take away from the bottom end when adding the extra weight to the clutches? Mostly tree riding. Would the pipe be beneficial 2017 axys 163 2.6"? Plan on new sled next year, so don't want to spend a lot if it's not worth it.

I am also looking at the jaws pipe. They recommend the heat sheild to go with it. Do you have the heat sheild? Does the heat seem excessive?

East of the Rockies and west of the rest.
I did the SLP pipe and can with Carl's Cycle clutch kit with the secondary spring and helix. Works really good, crisp throttle response and if anything I gained bottom end. I prefer tree riding also and didn't want to lose any bottom end is why I didn't go with a turbo. Mine is a 163 x 3 and the brother in law is on a 163 2.4 pro with a Silber, and the turbo has more power for sure but you end up needing it in situations where's the sleds low end response put you a bit past where you wanted to be if that makes sense.

The heat shield adds a couple extra HP that's all. Not going to melt anything if you opt out of it.

SLP best bang for your buck to lose some weight and gain a few hp. Its noticeable on the thumb dyno in some situations. I haven't tried the other brands so I cannot comment on those.

There website says reduces underhood heat. That was my concern with running it without the heat shield. Pretty sure it'll keep performance more consistent anyways. Like the consistant positive reviews on pipes. Looks like I just have to figure which one to go with. Jaws or Slp. I have a slp can already. Thanks for the reviews.

We have used and sold several SLP pipes and cans. Very positive results. The earlier models had developed some cracks in the pipes but warranty issues were quickly resolved. The trick with these thin wall pipes is to keep the clamps that wrap them, tight. The cheap gear clamps are not great and if you don't want to worry about it, upgrade to a beefier clamp(s) and some good header wrap under the clamp. I believe the clamps just minimize vibrations that can lead to cracks.

I have the Jaws on my 16 163 2.6, and it really woke up the sled, set it in eth mode, and off you go. The thumb dyno gave positive feed back.

If you throw a pipe on; then get the clutching and gearing done as well then it is absolutely worth it. I have never been happy with the gains from just throwing on a pipe and hoping for instant gains.

Price out the Jaws pipe heatshield and can. They recommended heavier weights, springs and a new helix fo my elevation. Got pricey fast for a few ponies.

But you likely could have used better clutching from the get go. You can also do it in stages. Get a helix run stock weights and just change stock primary spring, ride then determine if you want to change more.
