Is A Headlight Delete Worth It?

I have one pro with a delete and one with out. I have no problem with the auxiliary lights added to mine with the delete, but I am sure it is not as pristine as with the oe haleadlight but I also didn't buy the best light but will on my next one The gains for me were substantial when you add up the drastic change in under hood temps as well as the weight loss. I am not going to tell you that you can feel any difference what so ever but I know it is beneficial and looks bad ass too lol. My wife's pro is not deleted and the difference between the two hoods weight is beyond just noticeable. If you do the delete and spend some money on a quality auxiliary light source I am sure you will be happy and still enjoy the night rides back down the trail.

Yup just doesn't add up to me. Spend $100 to lose 2lbs then spend another $150 for a flashlight that weighs 1lb and takes up the extra storage space you created. In the end you spend $250 to save 1lb.




Some people spend hundreds of dollars and stick a bunch of cheesy decals to their sleds. It is all personal preferance and I can understand both sides, but if I am worried about a hundred dollars when it comes to my sled perhaps the only mods I should stick with are a can and a muff pot.

so with the new sleds, charging you headlights doesn't cost power... I don't know what your smoking but it is a parasitic loss on the engine. Will you make more power deleting the power, yes. will it be noticeable, probably not. You can usually gain 1 to 1/2 a clicker in rpm when deleting it.

I would have to question that... I'd be more concerned that the hand warmers take more power??

I was not knocking you at all. I was just trying to point out that at the point of doing a headlight delete most people already have hundreds/thousands of dollars tied up in other mods. I am all for responsible purchases but who doesn't like to treat themselves to some bling every now and again lol

Headlights run constantly, handlebar warmers can be turned down or off for that fact. As well those big magnets produce a lot of heat if there constantly making power.

just re-reading, yes a headlight delete is a waste of money. Normally people whom do this are getting a hood assembly in which case you are loosing an easy 12lbs. Much more significant and worth it in my opinion.

This is where a skinz led tail light comes in. Probably not much of a weight saver, but looks bad ass as hell on the back of a cr tunnel compared to the giant oe stocker. I know you were probably just saying it as a joke.... But trust me, even the wife will tell you it is a no brainer. If you are on a budget a muff pot is the best money spent. If you are looking to go custom, don't do the same as everybody else lol I think that if you saw vette lights on the back of an s-10 most would look twice. Why? Cause they did what some are just not willing to try. This is totally a "to each their own" situation, but I can tell you that you can see mine or her sleds a mile away from the just subtle differences added here and there. no offense intended, but sometimes mods are just for select people.

Man this opened a bigger can of worms than I thought. I bought a top dash vent and i just thought for it it be most effective I should remove the headlight for the heat to actually rise, and i think it looks bad ass.

So if you have a SLP pipe or Jaws etc on your ProClimb even if it is ceramic coated with out the clam shell the under hood temp goes up. Nothing wrong with with a few mods, and a headlight delete gets alot of
heat out. It would be a very good idea to have some type of light in case you end up coming down in the dark. Dont really need two car type head lights to drive out of the back country but yes more is better.
Some guys are credit card mechanics and thats fine just know that some guys are not. Some like to mod and for some its a hobby.

I won't EVER run a headlight again. shaved off 10lbs, added more air, better cooling, and to top it off, they look killer. but the biggest thing is this.....running a frankensled has CHANGED night riding. I mean legit night riding. Not riding out on the trail. I can now sidehill, tree ride, and jump, having a light on the situation. where I look, I have light. When the sled dies, I have light, when stuck, I have light, whenever wrenching at night, I provide the light. the franken sled is brighter than that of a stock sled. weighs next to nothing. mounts like a go pro. holds a charge for days. you ever blow a belt in the dark? look for your tools, get all the **** out of your clutches without a light? or holding a flashlight on your mouth? not this guy! I have converted so many people to the franken sleds....after they have ridden with me. then the light goes off....get it?....get...it? haha.

The Frankensled light is amazing don't miss my headlights at all. I am using the headlight space for my turbo intake.

what mode do your use your franken sled light on, high or medium? Even in the cold it lasts a long time?

Run that baby on high all the time. You can literally order 10 extra batteries for it on eBay for 10 dollars and have a pile of batteries charged in your back pack. Best little light ever.

High, I think how it came in the box. I never adjusted it. I ride the northern Rockies so cold it is! I've never had it die on me and I have forgotten to charge it on a few over night weekend trips. It's a few years old now, to.
We had an incident where our group split up on the mountain and Someone got left on the hill. My light was on for a couple hours straight. Normally I turn it on off when stopping etc. It was awesome being able to look off the trail into ditches to see if he had gone off trail. You CAN'T do that other wise. You would have to stop you sled, get off and take out flash light, walk to edge, scan, then continue on.

I'm telling ya, anyone who has ever mocked not having a headlight had quickly changed their tune after riding with me. Anyone who doesnt have a frankensled, to me, is LESS safe riding at night. No one will ever convince me other wise.

If you don't have one, or tried one, your opinion is just that, an opinion. Any one that has experience with them, knows.
