I wouldn't go on a trips to the mountains without it. Can be a life saver 100%.

The wife likes the txt if we are late getting down too.

Make sure your battery is charged.

you are able to send as well as receive messages with the in reach. you have the ability to text just like a normal phone

It works great text on the inreach or connect using the earthmate app

It's uses your phone contacts

Those you text can also see exactly where you are, and once they have the contact info can even find you on their own to check up if they want.

appreciate the info everyone, am picking up one this week, what plan are you guys running? just the basic and then paying if you do communicate?

also, was wondering if the screen on the higher end model is very usable as a gps? it looks quite small compared to most gps only units

It's a good idea to play with it at home in the back yard.

Practice on sending messages and texting.

So when an emergency happens your familiar with all the functions.

I think I pay 30.00 a month for the features turned on.

The screen is small for the gps yes.

When you send a message are you actually typing it out? Or is it generic messages?

I never liked typing/texting at all let alone with frozen arms, hands, fingers. Thats 1 out of many reasons for the my sat phone.

I just picked up the small black Inreach, I havent got it set up yet. I believe you can pair it to a cell phone and use the phone to text? Does anyone else have this model? I considered a sat phone, whats the average cost of a phone and a monthly plan?

I purchased my inreach from Sportchek/Atmosphere (not all stores have the Amosphere section). There should be a sale on now/soon, then sign up for their email list and get an extra 10% off on your first purchase.

I've had a Inreach since they came available, I had the first one replaced because it wouldn't connect with my phone through bluetooth when it was cold. The replacement I received is better but still not perfect, I have to keep my phone and inreach close to some heat to have them work properly. This is only for the texting function mind you, not the preset messages they work everytime.

Just a question. Do these ( inreach,Garmin) affect your avalanche receiver if you carry them in the front pocket? ha would be my only concern on carrying these.

I just picked one up.
There is a 99.95 dollar rebate and free case promo if you buy it over Christmas.
The tragedy in Revy finally convinced me that it is a mandatory piece of equipment.

I like the sound of that rebate! Was this rebate through inreach or did you have to buy at campers village? Been having the same thoughts since hearing of that event.

The rebate is a mail in and it is "up to $99.95". The reason for the "up to" is because it covers your $30 activation fee and the first month of whatever plan you choose, the most expensive being the unlimited at $69.95/month.
