5-10 years ago there was a huge demand for he mechanics. I think a ton of people jumped on board. Not so sure it would be a great idea. I think you ya be late to the party. The best jobs will likely be taken. The rest will be cold dirty jobs. I could be wrong.

I can find he mechanics and millwrights. I have a very hard time finding good he mechanics and millwrights. If you are good then your reputation precedes you and being busy is never really a issue

If anything the demand for HET's is at an all time high right now. A good chunk of the older generation of mechanics are retiring and a vast amount of knowledge is being lost IMO. There are lots of companies hiring and offering pretty handsome employment offers right now. Other companies not so much and they can't figure out why they aren't hiring anybody decent or why they're losing guys left, right and centre. The reality is I could toss out several resumes tomorrow and probably have a new job within a week. Thats just how I see it. I've been turning wrenches since I was 18 and I'm 24 now and so far its treated me really well. I got my ticket at 23 and I haven't looked back. Some days my job sucks but there will always be that in any job. I enjoy what I do for the most part. Do I want to do it forever? Not particularly since its a young mans game and I've seen far too many older mechanics with crippled up hands, backs, knees etc etc. And thats just the reality of it.

When I was a kid that's what I wanted to be too. I've had a couple friends work for CN and they don't really have much nice to say.

Bartender on a cruise ship ....just sayin

We went on a cruise years ago and made friends with one of the bartender ladies. She said she wouldn't suggest anyone take that job. It's just like when you go on vacation down south and think the staff at wherever you are staying have "got the life" but it's just another crappy job haha.

I did automotive mechanics for many years. During that time volunteering on the fire department. Then took my EMT 10 years ago. Now work for an integrated fire/ems department full-time. Great job and great shifts.

Yes i do work as some people think I don't. ;)

My cousin is a Para in Calgary and his friends like to give him a hard time cause his job isn't "that hard".

I can't think of many jobs harder than pulling ****ed up people out of mangled cars.

I admire the disposition it requires to do your job....the only time you get called out is when something nasty happened. The sh!t that I can only imagine you have seen at some of these horrific crash sites makes my guts churn. Good on ya buddy, I couldn't do it.

i was an automotive tech for years got sick of fighting with ford to get paid on warranty work so i started looking for something different to do .. decided i would start my own irrigation company (I had very limited experience) ... got into it slowly working at it part time for the first few years and luckily i had an employer that would let me work my irrigation around them.. then i got to the point where i worked full time on the irrigation in the summer and went back twisting wrenches in the winter which worked well for a few years but decided i needed some time off at some point in the year so i quit working winters ....

i dont know what i need to do. but tired of watching my friends make twice as much money and work half as hard LOL

Seems to be the common theme. Grass is usually greener on the other side of the fence cause its fertilized with bull chit.

Chances are good I should be working!

Welding is very good, but has a feast/famine effect. Times are good lots of loot, a slow down in the industry and the money runs dry.
