Xmas is a common abbreviation of the word Christmas . It is sometimes pronounced /ˈɛksməs/, but it, and variants such as Xtemass, originated as handwriting abbreviations for the typical pronunciation /ˈkrɪsməs/. The "-mas" part is from the Latin-derived Old English word for Mass,[1] while the "X" comes from the Greek letter Chi, which is the first letter of the Greek word Χριστός which comes into English as "Christ".
...
Merriam-Webster's Dictionary of English Usage stated that modern use of the term is largely limited to advertisements, headlines and banners, where its conciseness is valued. The association with commerce "has done nothing for its reputation", according to the dictionary.
It could be "abb". But that's confusing. Maybe it's best not to think about it."Xmas" as an abbreviation for Christmas reminds me.....why is the word "abbreviation" so friggin' long? What would be the abbreviated version of abbreviation?
let's put our money together and get the australian prime minister to come and rule canada and everything will be solved. now there is a person that believes in her country and not the complaining bastards that show up. in canada the spineless government burns the books on canadian tradition to please the assholes the come to this country. If I could make one request for the Christmas season it would be for as many people as possible to NOT use the term "Xmas" and to not use the term "happy holidays". I am not a religious nut (being a Pastafarian and all, LOL), but I do believe in the true meaning and reason for Christmas, and I hate how people, under the pretense of being politically correct, take away our traditions one at a time.
Merry Christmas all!
