Ideal Work Bench Height

38-42 inches is prett standard for counters and working surfaces

Going to be building a built in work bench in my garage this summer and need to know what the "ideal" height is for a regular guy. Reason I ask is because I am 5'4 and want to build it for re-sale not specifically for me. So that when I sell my house whoever gets it isn't like "who the f**k was the midget that built this?!" lol.

36" is "standard"...same as a kitchen counter. I just built a new one a little while ago and I went 37" high. My 2 cents eh.

Stand on a milk crate and that will be the height you need to build it.

That'd be great! I will measure my current one tonight too. To me it just seems tall but maybe it's better that way.

So if I measured my kitchen counter and made the work bench the same height that'd probably work? I will take measurements tonight.

Yeah my back bothers me too. I actually don't use the bench much but every garage needs a work bench!

I agree with fernie, kitchen counter height is ideal
as for your back; perhaps you should be using the bench more, just saying

hahaha....a beer fridge is the same as a gas tank...way better to run on the full half versus the empty half.

Rowdy, there is no "ideal" height as there are no regular guys, we come in all different sizes and shapes. My bench is good for me but when my buddy is over it's too tall for him ( apparently he didn't grow up all the way). Go with an average height and keep a bucket handy to stand on.

My back bothers me sometimes so the position of being more up right when working on things just makes it alot more enjoyable. You'll see when you hit 40+ LOL

Good thing these new trucks ride better than the ones we loaded the ark with or we'd b in traction.

Just a thought, u could build it so the top is a seperate piece bolted or screwed on. Build it to your height u want! 30" high say then if you move and want resale pop the top slip in a 2x4,2x6 or 2x8 frame spacer cheap and easy but back to resale specs per say! Plus as u grow up u can raise the top as u grow !
