I agree. I think that they have just as much of a right to enjoy the back country as we do. I think we need to foster good relations with these groups rather than seeing them as the enemy. Create one united front in keeping access to our back country open for everyone to enjoy. Im not a skier, but I think alot of them are good people.

You guys need to wake up and realize that a super hill like the one they are proposing for valemount will do nothing but good things for that small community. Like Curtis from VARDA said it will bring in much needed tax dollars to help with community infrastructure, more restaurant/bar options, services, etc. In regards to the bashing of skiers and boarders, do you realize that guys like Dan Treadway, Rob Alford, Geoff Kyle to name a few,. all top notch sledders who come from a skiing background. These are guys that all you douches look up too in the sled world and there SKIERS!!!! Ya there are a few people kicking around ski towns that fit your quotes but for the most part, all the SKI/BOARD BUMS that I know work there asses off 8 months of the year so they can ski/board all winter long and spend there time in these awesome mountain towns and shred everyday. Bring on the new hill in Valemount. Google earthed the location and looks sick!

I agree the valemount Mabe needs the money.

But I have a right to want sledders discounts , pubs that have slednecks playing ect.

Revy was awsome 5-6 years ago.

Now the prices are way past swallowable since the skihill has been opened ( took a few years to change tho )

I keep driving to sicamouse , McBride ect so I get what I want.

Maybe some people do, but I don't idolize Treadway, Alford, whomever. Not saying anything bad about them or their accomplishments, but I've seen a ton of guys equally as capable, not in the vids, who didn't ski before. The argument is moot IMO. If I passed them on the street I wouldn't know who they were - skier or sledder. Frankly, just not important to me what your background is.

Be safe and don't ride above me if I'm stuck on a slope, don't ride in closed areas, pack out your garbage, don't smoke weed in the cabin etc etc. and I got no issues with what background you came from. Do something stupid, triple park your SUV and single wide in the staging area so I can't get out, misrepresent or disrespect sledders in an establishment, or act like a fawktard, and you'll hear about it. Its about respect from both sides of our sports and unfortunately most people have forgotten that respect isn't given...its earned.

My apologies, I highly doubt that makes me a douche sledder but I'm willing to entertain the idea if anyone wants to say it to me directly.

These arguments are why I go into the backcountry...not to worship people...to get away from them.

to funny, we have a couple guys saying sledders spend sooo much money in mtn towns, then we have others whining about the cost of things in those towns..... hmmmm

really how much different is the cost of a room in revy now vs 5 yrs ago $50 maybe $100? How about the cost of a room in FT MAC or any other oilfeild related town? It's ok for those hotels to get rich off you guys why not the BC hotels?

You don't think skiiers spend $? how about the guy who spends $700+ to go heli skiing plus the room plus the booze, etc.... or the family who rents a room, rents skiis, lift passes etc.... $1000 a day minimum, I have seen many skiers dump thousands of dollars in a week.

How many sledders dump that kind of cash? a few for sure but I would bet not the norm.

Sure you spend $100-200 in the pub, split a room for $150, buy $50 in sled fuel, $20 trail fee..... maybe a belt or oil

There are just as many sledders who bring fuel, booze, food from home as there are skiers doing the same.

Still can't figure out why some sledders feel they are soooo important in this world that they can bitch about another area user. Human nature I guess....

People want to use BC's beautiful areas, and because of that prices are going to go up, fact of life.

Honestly a ski hill is not going to do much for the town in the way of building local population. They pay minimum wages(means transeint workers not families), purchase supplies from bigger centers and are usually more of a burden on the towns than good( hospitals/ambulances take a beating). Sure you may get service industry increases but really it's only for 4months of busy times then it's back to the same quiet town.

For a town to grow you need an industry that runs 12 months a year.

So Ur saying all u albertians are rich fort Mac peeps ??

I'm just a poor alberta auto tech...

It does make a difference for how many times I get to go a year.

For example. Good breakfast in McBride. 6.95.

Golden 11.95 for the same thing.

U are close to double the price for a room in revy.

That's 2 nites somewhere else for the price of one.

How about fuel. Golden is allways at least 5c more a L than revy.

I don't down town it anymore.

Revy used to have a awsome nite life and spent way too much.

It's all gone and now I just stay in the room.

U tell me what ski hills do pano....

I think alot of peeps are just cutting back on there riding or doing like Tex and going to a cheaper hill. Its just getting to expensive in these ski towns as the business's are cashing in on a 6-8 month season. I can't blame them really but the guys who have been supporting those towns for 25-30 years are leaving and going to ride new area's.

All kinds of options.

You saved me a lot of typing! I was chuckling as I read the posts, one guy says the skiers have no money, the next guy says prices go up to much when a resort sets up. As you pointed out, very ironic :)

In Revy the Days Inn may be the only secure lot there. I have not heard of one theft in that lot but the others all scream.....steal me steal me.

I think the ski hill is a good thing for the town. The extra revenue that the lodge will bring to Vale will help the town alot. Im not sure what the full details of the ski-hill are but I see potential of maybe a 12 mth business, down hill mtn biking maybe??
