What do you think? lol

As much as I hate ski hills, I know alot of the people of Valemount would like
to see some more economic activity in the area. Cant blame em....

The Valemount cops with think they've died and gone to heaven when they start pulling over the hippy toques and leashes crowd....

And the hikers are carpet lickers

LOL, I know the general feeling regarding ski hills in the snowmobiling community. I have been involved in this process since the beginning. First and foremost no sled terrain will be effected aside from the lower family loop on Westridge as it will likely be one of the access routes. Snowmobiling has long been the most important economic driver for the winter months here in Valemount and with many of our sledders returning to enjoy our area in the summer season as well, we are starting to see and upturn in the non-white seasons which has been great. I have been on the ground with this idea since the beginning and believe me as a sledder, I have kept our interests out in front and will continue to do so. While the snowmobile community has blessed our town with a extremely valuable and appreciated winter economy, there are things you guys cant do (although I know that many of you would if you could) such as, filling seats in our highly threated elementary and high schools that are dealing with extreme financial hardship and the constant thoughts of closures in the minds of the students, staff and young parents like me. Our downtown core is suffering, our tax base is shrinking and we are steadily loosing young (and old) families to out of town work. Valemount Glacier Destinations has the potential to increase the services offered to visitors in our community, provide a substantial increase to our tax base (so our village can complete major infrastructure upgrades to things such as underground piping and sewer, which we desperately need), increase potential for local employment away from the resort for creative entrepreneurs etc etc. I understand the concerns of long time Valemount regulars although please understand the situation our community is in and appreciate the benefits something like this will bring the to people who live here. You have a very loud and active organization working on your behalf in the Valemount community and we will continue to research and listen to issues faced by other communities who have gone through a transition period such as this and use this information and past experience to help us move forward with planning and development. Sledding has been our saviour in the cold seasons and I will never forget that, it has given many residents (including me and my family) the opportunity to remain in the valley we love so much. I will continue to advocate and protect our sport here in the area, although I fully support this development and the potential it has to make Valemount my home until I am too old to get on my sled any more...........sorry for the long paragraph...lol my return button does not seem to work on this site....

So....just like Revelstoke then.

Yes. Exactly like revelstoke. The good thing is that revy still caters to sledders. As Curtis said valemount will do the same. O e plus with skiers is woman at the bars!! Even though I'm not On the market it's nice to see the listings.

How about the waitress at the Husky in Golden. She only works mornings but she is the ultimate waitress. Busy as a bee, remembers what you eat and pretty much has the order in as you walk across the parking lot towards the resteraunt. Lmao she is great.

You guys need to wake up and realize that a super hill like the one they are proposing for valemount will do nothing but good things for that small community. Like Curtis from VARDA said it will bring in much needed tax dollars to help with community infrastructure, more restaurant/bar options, services, etc. In regards to the bashing of skiers and boarders, do you realize that guys like Dan Treadway, Rob Alford, Geoff Kyle to name a few,. all top notch sledders who come from a skiing background. These are guys that all you douches look up too in the sled world and there SKIERS!!!! Ya there are a few people kicking around ski towns that fit your quotes but for the most part, all the SKI/BOARD BUMS that I know work there asses off 8 months of the year so they can ski/board all winter long and spend there time in these awesome mountain towns and shred everyday. Bring on the new hill in Valemount. Google earthed the location and looks sick!

In the Fernie area, we have found our biggest percentage increase in membership is in the back-country skier/boarder type dude. They are tired of the rules and crowds at the hill and just love to get out with their sleds and boards/skis and shred the left over pow that we sledders can't touch. The early season showing of this element at our new cabin was awesome. Even tho' they don't spend the big coin like sledders, they are an essential part to the economic and back-country numbers that we as a group are going to need in the future to keep our riding areas open.
