the law about shooting stray, wandering dogs on your property is an old law. and the law states you are in your right to shoot any dog on your land without protecting livestock or pets etc.
the larger problem is that 75% of people who own dogs should not. they buy the dog feed them, never train them and tie them up or keep them fenced or run free with no attention. dogs need constant attention, training and guidance (which means daily walks). helps them burn energy and keeps their brains active, if not they have to do it themselves. which leads to dogs mis-behaving
growing up on a farm i know personally of neighbor dogs killing cows, moose and smaller livestock. yet they ran home and were considered "pets"
when I was a kid we had a similar situation, no guns pointing at humans... neighbor killed one of our dogs and there was nothing we could do, we knew the law
years later we had other neighbor dogs wander into our yard so we shot into the air to scare them away, cops were called on us but they said we were 100% in our right to kill the dog, they just had to come to our yard to show a lip service to the other neighbor
