Kanedog 2015-2019, thanks for the good times S&M!
On a longish smooth straight stretch or hill, take the sled up to 8000rpm. Once at 8000 for three seconds, let the throttle off to around 7000rpm. Then go Wfo.
If it lolligags for more than 1/4 of a second and slowly returns to 8000, it is most likely geared too high or something needs attention.
If it returns to 8000 instantly, and I mean instantly, welcome yourself to the perfect clutching club. Don't feel bad it isn't instant. Only 1% of sleds will be perf. My sled is not perfect. Maybe this year.
Snow and mud tip of the day.

my turbo always runs to 8000 quickly but slowly starts to fade under load down to 7400

The turbo guys ususlly add more clutch weight to control rpm but extra weight combined with too high gear ratio will do this. Kinda like putting your foot to tge floor in overdrive in your truck. It's tough to get it perfect with the availsble gear ratios and get everything perf. It just takes too much time to tune so sometimes it is what it is so to speak.

yeah might work better after it gets broken in.

Lots of respect for anyone that knows clutching and can really dial it in...when I was running the big 4S sleds it was a constant mission to get that top end performance that you paid for. Got to ride with some guys that just knew what to do as learned a lot but boost and clutching can be a real mystery sometimes

Clutching seams pretty simple to me. But I never have messed around clutching a Yamaha though.

1100 cats with EVO Super Chutes were pretty ok with the dalton weights, some of the hardcore guys I rode with then were always trying to get every bit outta them.

I put about 1000km on a boost-it turbo viper. Never had to mess with the clutching. not sure what they did with it, but it always pulled really hard.

Yeah I had two weigh plugs that I used for the whole season, really man I can’t tell the difference with north of 330hp a few either way, wot you were going so damn fast it was just hang on and go straight up. These turbo 2S units now have me in love with them, amazing and loads of fun

My 2016 M8000 pulls 7800rpm on hills, bone stock with a can. Should I bother messing with weights to get that extra 200rpm? Or more? I don't even know where it should pull at for peak performance.

You need dalton adjustable weights . 8200 will rock compared to what your doing at 7800

Drop 2 grams on the weights and install a new spring. 8000rpm +- 50rpm. It will be a,different sled. Smiles all around for you! Great question!
1gram=100rpm approx

You may consider checking your belt condition and deflection first, then primary and secondary for worn parts. Depending on the elevation your riding, 68 gram weights should be good up to 8000 ft. If your above that consistently you may need less weight. My 8000 pulls 8250 rpm all day everyday all stock with a can. I did run the stock can also and it was the same. The 400 rpm your missing is like going from a 600 cc to an 800 cc. The peak performance rpm is 8250 according to A/C.

You are leaving more like 350-400 rpm on the table, yes mess with it, I’m guessing the can made you lose a bit of power if your only pulling 7800
