How long till Yamaha sinks or swims in the sled market?

I believe mountain sleds only account for about 25% of the snowmobile market so Yamaha is probably happy with that remaining 75

I hope they come up with something. I plan to get back in the sled game in a couple years and if they had something decent by then it would be my first pick by far because in terms of build quality and reliability, nobody else even comes close. There are so many other possibilities in terms of design that they haven't tried yet....v-twins, v-fours, direct injection, direct drive, longditudal mounting, tube frames...they certainly have the engineering ability.

Details........ ???? They have wicked 2stroke technology in their outboards, maybe a new 2smoke? I think they have nothing to worry about as is, they target a minority in mountain riders but the touring/trail sleds etc are just fine and probably the real majority anyway, I know a lot of old people running around the trail systems in Kamloops areas with their reliable 4strokes and not a complaint.

Yammi is a billion dollar company with its own Rd from things like MOTO GP dirt bikes pianos!!I don't think they are going away any time soon!!!They are much more likely to be around in 50 yrs than cat or Polaris.My 2 cents

I think a 2 stroke yammy is a pipe dream at best. 4 strokes seem to sell well in the east so for them to develop clean 2 stroke technology primarily for the western market just doesn't seem to make sense. So many years I've seen the Yamaha faithful wait for this game changing mountain sled that never seems to come. Yamaha has filled a niche in the market place and looks pretty content to do that whole thing. Like my dealer says "when they sell more outboards I California than sleds in North America it's tough for them to care about mountain sleds". I really hope I'm wrong because its tough to watch my local dealer sell a couple sleds a year.

Don't fool yourself. A business is a business and so long as there is a dollar to be made they will be doing it. I would be interested to know the profit margin difference on an outboard to a sled...

With a lineup in desperate need of an update when do you think Yamaha will get the funds together to release a new, purpose built and competitive mountain sled? The nytro has been the same sled since 08' only with minor upgrades. Maybe Yamaha doesn't want to be player out west and are happy with the eastern short track market?

Competitive at seeing who can get stuck the most......LOL. Last year in Revy we dropped into this spot way back in Frisby. We went to leave and two M8's, an XP 800, pro rmk, and turbo nytro all got out no problem from where we were, but it took us over 3 hrs to get 2 stock nytros out, but they are super capable........ in the flat lands.

The guys that put down a nytro cause they rode it once in the mountains for 10 min don't really know you gotta put some time on it. It's got a weird steering and some other things but I've rode with all the other new sleds on my nytro and were all doing the same stuff in the same area. If you have rode a nytro and had some time on it and still don't like it that's cool but there's people out there that do and just cause the doo, poo, and cat guys don't like it doesn't mean that yamaha is lacking its a capable, competitive, sled you just gotta ride it. jmo

Its a pipe dream but if they brought out a new fuel injected vmax 4 engine out, I would have to buy one, coolest sounding sled ever built.

Can you tell which is the 2008 and which is the 2013 Apex??? I sure have a hard time. Although, they definitely have the 'yamaha dependability' going for them, without a doubt, their sleds are about as exciting as watching paint dry. Not only that, 17,299 MSRP for a new Apex! Compare that to a 13 Pro's MSRP of 13,499....As people have said, the Nytro's seem like good, but a lot has to be spent before hand to get them there. I dunno, not for this guy...

In the end it all comes down to the rider, I've been riding in the trees and come across stuck pros just cause there stuck doesn't mean it's the sled

The definitely cost more but when a guy who doesn't have enough money to buy a new sled ever 2 or 3 years then the little bit more in the start saves you in the end when the sled will run the same for 10 years with regular maintenance

Wouldn't own my nytro if it wasn't a turbo , 240 hp can be a lot of fun at times but the weight is a huge downfall in the trees, would not recommend buying one unless you turbo it, also it rides way nicer down the trail than my buddy's rev xp.

yip full season on a belt at 250hp plus. clutch hasnt needing rebuild in 3yrs, 20000km before a valve adjust. dont have to rebuild motor every yr. yip it sucks owning a yamaha. chit id pay polaris 4g more for their sled if they could stay together as good as a yamaha.
