Hot Water Heat in slab installer needed.

I am building a garage / hobby barn and want to install a heated concrete slab, if any one can let me know of a good installer they have used I would appreciate the referral. Garage/hobby barn is 28x40 2 sty , see picture, want heat on both levels. Located 3 mile east of Sherwood Park

so the inslab heating can be installed after the concrete is poured? Do they just cut lines into it? will that make a hell of a mess and cut lines everywhere? just curious

i hope that is a pic of what you want your barn to look like. Cause if thats the actual barn and it already has a slab its alittle late for infloor heat.unless you wanted to pour a sub slab on top of the exsisting

The inslab heating gets put in befor the concrete is poured. It must get prepped (gravel,packed,rebared) Then the inslab heat guy will come lay out the lines over the rebar.He will zip tie it to the rebar.Then pour the concrete.Then they will come back and hook up the boiler. I have herd them hooking up the boiler and then pouring as well.Not sure on the price of it.But im pretty sure its not cheap.But then again what is.

Exactly, but we seldom hook the boiler up before we pour...We pressure the lines with air for a 24hr test, then pour with the lines under (air) pressure. Once the concrete is set, then we purge the air, and hook up the boiler.

I would love to come do it for you, just a little far away LOL

good choice. inslab heat in a shop is amazing. have it in my garage and its not such a big deal to be on the floor working on something anymore haha

when my dad builds a new shop he wants to the inslab heat, we already have a outdoor woodstove water boiler that heats our house and dad was gunna the other lines for the heated floor in the shop as well heat his "doghouse"

Just be sure to install an exhaust fan that is hooked to a humidistat. The humidity levels can get ridiculus, when you pull a couple of sleds in and let them thaw. Hate to see you end up with a mold issue. I have slab heat in mine, and a sloped floor to a center drain that is tied into a drywell.

yah wow forgot to mention that.

we ended up going with a commercial dehumidifier that has an auto drain to the floor drain to a drywell too. that way you dont loose any engery. ei not pumping your heat outside. humidity levels were around 80% the drywall was wet and the windows were dripping before. the dehumidifier holds it around 35-40%. everything is dry now.

you can ruin a building pertyyyy quick if you dont do one of these methods

basically a big hole in the ground filled with rocks and sand that allows the water that drains from your garage to dispurse into the ground. but all piping and drywell compnents are below frost level

my brother did that when he built his shop he just uses a electric hot water tank for the heat source works great .... he put the pipe in after the rebar was down guys came in laid the concrete week later pumped the antifreeze/water mix works great

I would stay away from HWT system for nice shop, no money savings. We do boilers with infloor heat, pm me and we can meet up see what you want and get you some pricing. Good Luck.

If you need a design done for your permit pm me have been instructing infloor radiant design for the last 9 yrs and am currently a director of the Alberta Hydronic Advisory Council dont know your area that well but Dan Arnold pirate mechanical is a decent contractor and the current president of the assocaition he is located in saint albert

The rest of the upstairs is heated with baseboard heat off the boiler and we love it. I bought the base heat from a company out of the U.S. called AIM Radiant heat.
I ran all the lines myself and hired Parker Mechanical to install the boiler and do the connections. It's not cheap....but worth it.

Thanks for all your response guys, will get in touch with a few of you.

The concrete guys poured the piles yesterday and are doing the grade beam today, than the framers will frame the entire bldg in a couple of weeks, after that is done and the frost is out, the concrete boys will be back to prep for the 5" thick c/c slab, when the slab prep work is done I will have the hot water heating lines laid down etc, than pour the c/c etc.:d

i have inslab heat in my entire house. absolutely love it. entirely different heat than a forced air furnace too. and soooooo nice on your feet. my place is slab on grade, so no basement, and i have stamped concrete and tile floors. upstairs stays warm just from the heat rising basically. in the master bath that's tiled we have infloor from the boiler. total of 4300 sq ft of living space and 2000 sq ft of garage/shop, all with infloor heat from 2 gas boilers. my gas bills are about the same as my parents that have a 1200 sq ft bungalow, and only run the furnace and hot water off the gas. i have boiler for heat, hot water, and we cook with gas as well. i would say it's well worth the investment in the long run for sure.!!!
