Falling Star - thank you for those pictures. The horses look amazing, considering all they went through - and their ears are up! Glad to see it was daylight when they were led out. For some reason I was thinking it was 11 pm

Any word on how they are doing?

Forgot to mention that the horses are doing well. I visited them today. They seemed very content.

Hello:

My name is Jeanette Cavalier and I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico....I've been following the rescue of the 2 beautiful horses and would like to say "Thank you and God Bless all that were involved in this "Miracle of the 2 Horses".

I want to say that the people here in mcbride are an awesome bunch of people.. I give a large thank you to all involved.. i wasn't able to make it up there and dig myself as the shop was way to bsy and don't have all co-workers trained yet.. but we did what we could from the shop.. The most important thing of all is done now the horses are down from the mountain and on the road to recovery.. When i moved here 3 months ago i didn't realize how great of a community i was joining and now and REALLY glad i made the move and took the leap to buy/open the sled here in mcbride.. i cant say enough how greatful and thankful i am for all the guys that were up on the hill diggin to free the horses even in the bitter cold weather... Merry x-mas and happy new year to all..

I just read and watch the articles and it said the owner could not get to the horse because he lost them. But where are the saddles,bridels, and anything else that would have been on the horses???

I was told he left all his gear up on the mountain. The horses still had their shoes on when they were found. Thank God Dave pulled them.

Folks who are part of a horse board want to know if there is an address they can mail thank you notes to the rescuers. Is there a good mailing address they could use that would get to most people in McBride? Their thread on the horse rescue has had more than 3,500 hits already and there are a lot of grateful people on that board.

I personally don't really believe the owner reported the animals missing in the first place. This is a small town and all news travels fast. Someone would have heard about them and passed the information on. No-one heard anything about the horses until November when some sledders reported seeing them.

Knowing the people of this valley, I can guarantee you that if the horses were reported missing in September/October a search and rescue effort would have been launched at that time.

The horses represent something very special to McBride. This shows what can happen when all different types of people band together to accomplish an almost impossible task. I regret that I was unable to take part physically as a digger (sent my honey up there instead). I would like to send my love and thanks to all that participated via their hard work and/or donations.

I am proud to say that I live in McBride.

Sending letters to SPCA is a waste of time. They will base their decision on the facts, not anyones opinion. If the dude reported it earlier, there will be someone to say, yeah, he told me or not. These guys have enough work to do without having to wade through the emails of a thousand well meaning but possibly uninformed people that have no factual information to add to the investigation.
Kudos to the rescuers and everyone that donated, you were part of something to be proud of. Merry Christmas.

....A warm & greatful thanks out to all the volunteers of the rescue mission from my wife & I here in Lloydminster. She has owned horses from a small girl, till moving here from her farm in Nipawin ! She cannot believe the efforts that went into such an event from a small community! "Sounds like something only a small town in the middle of nowhere could pull off"....she can relate & remembers growing up & something like this was common, when everyone gathered to exceed the unimaginable!!

With all due respect, I really disagree with you. While I don't think for one minute the SPCA will wade through thousands of emails, I do believe if there is the slightest chance this man can get the horses back, it is important to voice an opinion - public opinion does matter.....for the horses sake. Otherwise, I think we just sat here and watched a feel good show - which is OK - but I don't think that helps keep the horses safe, or even shows respect for the people that were out there for days trying to save their lives. Whether he reported it or not, he didn't follow through - he didn't get them rescued...... he left them to die. As we have witnessed - it was possible to rescue them - obviously not easy, but it was done. Of course we will all do what we think is best - but I don't believe voicing an opinion to try to keep the horses away from this man, is a waste of anyone's time.
