hitch extension

Question for you all, i have a 27' interstate allsport enclosed and a 8' sled deck. With 4-5 sleds in the trailer would i be over the weight for a hitch extension. 12-14" extension?

not gonna be putting sleds on the deck with the trailer just want space between deck and trailer when towing. So i dont wanna remove the deck when i wanna use the trailer.

I would contact the hitch shop or abc muffler and hitch(780 440 1661)... Or someone in medicine hat that specializes in hitches for the proper answer.... You will need a special type hitch extension with that type weight... What kind of vehicle you pulling that with?

Personally I wouldn't. That is a lot of leverage on that hitch.

Looked high and low to find a hitch extension rated for more the 400 lbs tongue weight, and 4,000 lbs trailer weight, with weight distrubuting it goes up to 650 lbs / 6500 lbs.

The other purchase alternitives are to replace your reciever with the real expensive Super Hitch, it looked like lots of work to hook up and didnt look safe to me, lots of leverage....heard it makes the truck bounce alot and will wear out the front end.....

I went another way, found an extra long solid shank, works for most the hauling we do, our horse trailer came with an extra long front end, our enclosed Haulmark had a short front end, we extended it so we can haul it behind a 1 ton dually with a 9.5 camper....the camper has a pourch that sticks out about 14"....

I used a class V hitch, spend the cash and be worry free, do it right

I have tried it... it was hard on the truck towing, not really worth it in my books. The truck bucked pretty good over larger bumps in the road and its a 3500 with airbags.

I would say superhitch is the best way to go but it is a 1000 bucks all set up!

Doesn't even look like you need an extension on that setup with the V-nose.

Read the fine print: some of these extenders automatically drop your tongue and trailer GVR by 50% over a normal receiver insert.

The shank is 16" long and rated same as the reciever on the 1 ton....

What did they charge you to extend the trailer like that? I have an aluminum 19ft and thinking about extending it like that....

Modled it after our Southland horse trailer, and beefed it up a bit....

I've used a 12" solid extension to pull a 3 place inline behind my 3/4 ton with the deck on it. I was meeting a buddy halfway (he was pulling it with their reg cab 3/4 ton shop truck) and he had 2 sleds with him, so we put all the sleds in the trailer. Worked fine, just didn't try any super tight turns.

I extended my hitch to a single tube so I can jack knife it just past 90 degs.....I can park it any where.....I will be doing that to all my trailers from now on!
