I really want to try and get into Mystery Lake sometime in early October, can anyone tell me if the trail in is accessable with a couple side x sides? Is there any place to set up a small camp for a night if it is accessable? Is there any signs at the trailhead so a guy would know for sure that he was on the right trail? I haven't been able to find any information about the trail that isn't at least a couple years old and don't want to waste my time driving up from Red Deer if its not even possible to get to the lake. Thanks for any advice.

About 6 hyrs ago I tried with my side by side.................didnt make it and beat my Prowler to crap cause Im not one too turn around.Personally unless the trail has been cleared out which I doubt I wouldnt recommend it!Mind you I turned around less than a kilometre from the lake.
I could get updated info as I grew up there and still have family and freinds there.

We need one of our GPS member to chime in with a track! I ride around Hinton a fair bit throughout the year and would love to visit this. I have Mystery Lake and Mystery Cabin marked on Google Maps, but how to get there??? I am not too sure. We usually camp just off of Hwy 40 Near the Gregg River and I hear you can access starting from there.

Have you ever tried geocaching? There are some good write ups on the trail into that lake. You can create a free account at www.geocaching.com the search for GC1342F. The log entries on that cahce page should help you out.

Me and my buddy tried last year around middle og aug.Followed 2 guys on horse back in we got turned around approx 500yds before they did but the trail is not made for sxs quads was starting to get really deep ruts approx 3ft deep anyways ended up headin back to the river/creek where the old trappers cabin is.No sooner said than done the guys on horses were there brewski in with and said that the water at the meadow was up to the horses belly and they turned around. That was last year with all the rain we had can;t imagine this year still have this spot on my radar and would like to eventually get there some day lol.Oh and i did not use a gps strickly woodsman knowledge lol.

I live in Hinton and have been into Mystery numerous times. As others have stated, the trail can be very, very bad. I've had very easy trips, making it from the trailhead to the lake in under an hour while other times, we've given up after three or more hours. I do know of one friend of mine who made it to the lake with his Rhino a few years back, so it can be done. As already stated, we have had a lot of rain this year, but it has been fairly dry for the last few weeks, so it shouldn't be too, too bad. Good luck !!

Sent from my iPad when I should be fishing.

Well we made it out this weekend, left Friday Oct. 19 and came out Monday Oct. 22. If anyone else is considering this trail, probably not now till next year, i would recommend that you not take your sidexside in. Trail is much better suited for the quads, both my buddy and i have enough random body damage to justify this statement. Took us 4 hours to get in on friday in real nice conditions and 7 hours to get out on monday with less than ideal conditions, snow, ice, partially frozen muskeg. Anyways, thanks for all the advice guys, now its down to the parts store to start fixing.
