higher speeds and EZ-clean problems

Does anyone else have problems with there EZ-clean grate and higher speeds. At about 105-110km/hr and above the EZ clean grate pulls itself down like it is trying the clean itself. Does anyone know what causes this and what someone can do to prevent it. I was thinking of pinning the shafts of the EZ-clean so that it does not move, but would like to keep it as simple as possible.

Easy cleans are certainly not speed friendly, will always cause a reduction in speed. One thing you may try to minimize having to have a block wedged under your stomp bar is to increase the tension of your springs, makes it harder for the water to force it open and create cavitation. The more bars the water has to go around on the way in , the more it limits your pumps efficiency.

I was looking under my boat the other day at my stomp grate. And was wondering if you rounded the bottoms of the grating if that would help it suck water? You would think it has to work better then the square edges? I don't got the speed issue like you lol. But I do have cavitation

We were just talking about this, thinking maybe taper and smooth the tops of the bars, remove burrs and narrow up the tops. If you round or narrow the bottoms, it may promote rocks sticking in rather than having the grate repel the rocks.

I thought of the rocks to. I might try it. Never thought about the top side but would help stop a bubble forming. My grate isn't to big won't take very long.

It's counter intuitive but your bars will actually flow better if you leave them square on the outside and taper the edge pointing to the impeller. ^ more like that than like this \/ if that makes sense.

Yup true dat, and when you do get a rock in there, it's far easier to dislodge by stomping.

Was gonna say this.

What kind of boat/ pump is it? Has it always done this?

Doh!!! ^^^ this is what I did when dropping the motor in. Yea the grate moves about 0.5" but it's enough to cause problems and major water spray. I might just block it with wood. At least if I drop it, it will float vs pins that sink. Might try and think up a latch system.

Mayby just taper both sides of the bars now!
