I use viewranger on my phone, bought the Canada topo map, I just mark where camp is and don't use the follow me part. You can download maps before you go out so no need for service.

We will be out Friday to Monday. And it's really good I've had it for years just keep putting it on new phones and tablets with no extra cost. You can also put it on your computer and link it to your device to put staging areas and attractions in

I just downloaded the mob Armor gps app to my phone .. looks like a simple ,user friendly setup.
Going to give it a whirl this weekend . Any one use it or have any feedback ?

Looks good, but not sure about the yearly fee.

I have installed and tried maybe 5 or 6 different mapping apps trimble, navionics, garmin earth mate, some hunting ones, a few compasses that did not work, I cannot remember the exact ones now.... there are so many of them. Google earth just had an update, it seems to be getting better and better. One thing for sure it has to work offline every time and be accurate or it is tossed. And be able to install routes and way points.

We gave it a short test just traveling down ...amazing & simple .
Real test on the trails to come ... but I want something that is easy , accurate , easy to read and follow without stoping .
So we will see , looks promising to me ..
But I am far from a gps expert ..lol

Rode with a guy with the Garmin 600 series.

Nice big screen and worked great.

Yes memory maps has some problems with ease of use, dvd to micro sd then install es file explorer to read the drives then get a licensing agreement for third party maps. Or you can get the app and download the province which is not near as stable. They do not make a gps yet that can compare to the fantastic map clarity and accuracy as Memory Maps on a phone. This info is just for the gps geeks that want perfection and are willing to wade through the bullsh!t to make it work. Phones and apps are changing at a rapid pace, so many mapping apps to try that work good, maybe even fantastic... who knows. I rarely pick my high end gps over my phone or tablet for delicate precise navigation. It just does not cut the mustard so to speak. Of coarse if your navigational stuff is bouncing around in your cab filled with mud, phones and tablets may not be a wise choice.

The latest google earth app has fixed the accuracy issues they where having, it is really stable and works good. Clear your cache and zoom into the area you are going to, let it clear all up and pan around a larger area. It is working pretty dam good now.

I have never come across any app or any gps for that matter, that works better than Memory Maps app on a phone or tablet. Extremely accurate, amazing graphics, choice of 50 or so different tap settings. But downloading it is complex, but now they have added a new feature... download entire map, you had better have a large storage though.

Hey I was considering using a tablet as well vs "GPS". Something with a 8" screen and android OS, then a mount of some sort. I would like to keep it hardwired but I guess then it won't be waterproof. What tablet are you using and how does it perform in the cold, how does the touch screen function in the cold or when there are water droplets on the screen or the screen protector/waterproof case? I have been looking at the galaxy tab 8 and then a mount () (). I have also looked at some of the rugged tablets but they are so expensive (https://reactual.com/portable-electronics/the-most-ruggedized-tablet.html)

Thanks in advance

I have and 8 inch Samsung 200 bucks or so at Costco or less than that on sale, I have a case that fits it, it is the same size as the Samsung, buy a good leather one for 30 bucks or so. Then I have a small padded zip up case that I put it into. I throw that into the back of the my sled, go tree riding and pounding it over all kinds of crap. Never once caring what happens to the tablet. It has been along at least 20 trips and snowed on the screen when looking at it. Usually use 50% of the battery with a full day of riding. I think some heat comes off the tunnel so it is a bit warmer. And I did buy a plastic zipped waterproof case, but it is a pain and I only used it a few rides.

Well for just over 100 dollars Costco has a 7 inch Samsung tablet, and after much searching in comes with a built in... unassisted gps. So this will work offline.
