I have found any of the phone apps are hit and miss. Haven't found one that works 100% of the time.

I had issues with my Montana at first then started using AA batteries and a 12v plug in. Works great now even in cold. With the factory battery it doesn't like the cold.

I have been using a garmin 60CSx for years and it works great. I'm going to upgrade to the 62 or 64. GPS central out of Calgary is awesome to deal with.

Get an 89 dollar acer cell phone out of Costco. Buy a 4 dollar cover for it. Throw away your wallet put your drivers license, charge card , money and other stuff in the protective cover. Get memory maps apps for 25 bucks per province.. put a memory card in the phone. Download all the provinces you need into the card. Install google earth app... set the cache size to high. Zoom into the area you are going to for crystal clear satellite view. Nothing beats memory maps for 1:50000 topographic display just like you have purchased 1000's of maps. All works without any cell service. This will all work with tablets as well if you like a supper big display. Laptops also work for even bigger display but you will need to buy an external gps. Bellow is caribou closures, had to resize and put pixels way down just to get the picture to load.

Does the cell's gps chip compare to a dedicated gps unit in regards to accuracy and power?

Some cell phones batteries are crap, i bet that Samsung that caught fire on the plane would last all day though. My acer last all day and my Samsung tablet last maybe 2 or 3 days. Memory maps has been making this app since the early 90's and said it was for a pda, I did not have a clue what a pda was. But I have owned the maps since the 90's and just printed them out and then took my gps and a pencil and would plot on the map where I was. That's when gps just had utm or lat long on it. Then the fancy ones come out with the maps, I have owned several those garmin and Magellan. Then I discovered memory maps worked on a tablet and even on a phone. It could be up to 20 feet or so off on accuracy at times, but I think it is more accurate than any gps's is. Never has any gps I owned work on a commercial aircraft, but my tablet with mm works. Crystal clear maps with so many functions on it. Those pilots with their crappy little handheld gps that they paid over 1000 dollars for, look really bewildered when you hand them over the tablet. Google earth is twitchy and not as accurate offline, mm is exact.

I still take the gps along and throw it in the sled somewhere, it is great at putting pictures on the map where you took them and transferring routes to google earth or Memory Maps. But rarely does it come out when we are checking routes through the trees or tight spots, the tablet is much much better at navigation. And it has all the repair manuals, paper work for all the quads and sleds, all the caribou closures .. pictures and video are great. I do not own an expensive phone to compare it to, but my cheap acer is better than my gps, although satellite view on my gps which I have spent many hours downloading is better at times. There is several free mm maps, and all their other's which they are many, have a 10 day free trial. Of coarse to vew them offline requires a bit of effort to learn their routine. But if you own a phone with a gps it will not cost you a dime to try it out, you would have to be a fool not to try it out.

I would get this one . In Reach built in and can text and receive through your cell phone . " Bluetooth "

Does that one have a built in 2way radio? Looks like a good unit. How much?

I want one of these, they are 2000$ though.

The two way is the only thing they missed. Dumb ass's
We were just talking about this a few weeks ago.

Yeah if it was like a Rhino 655 with Inreach, it could have been a pretty slick unit.
