I was pulled over heading to Long lake, I was just over 1 1/2" over. I was told its a few hundred dollar ticket and a long tow bill. Easy for me to fix, just slid the hitch forward 3". I think the tow bill will be more expensive than the ticket

Dont do it. It's not worth it. as higher n you stated, it just gives them more fuel to pull over rigs pulling super b's. 1 thing I DON'T need!

you guys sure jump to conclusions.

he never once said it hit the road.

maybe he just got all setup and took a measurement now is looking for advice.

the correct answer to your situation on your new rig would be commercial plates and permit. like mentioned.

Can you get away with a smaller pup trailer? Would a 10' or 12' work? There's been lots of talk over the years about banning multiple trailers, like previously stated, this setup only helps their crusade.

I've heard theese rumors aswell so I called Alerta Transportation, they said there are no plans to stop double trailering. There haven't been enough issues to warrant it. More trouble with people pulling big units with SUV's and 1/2 tons that aren't enough of a tow vehicle.

Would farm plates work? What has to be registered as commercial? The Truck or the trailer?

the part I think is funny is..... how does commercial plates and a permit make it safer for the road????? government just makes more money. yes it may be legal but why? people go right off the band wagon because it is not safe to tow this but after they get a permit ect...... it is all good? WTF?

And what about the 70 year old guy driving a 45 foot motorhome with air, no upgraded licences needed. Just makes no sence.

Zacklty right there my small peckered friend. Get commercial plates and a permit.? how does that make it safer. I personally think that the government should step in and change the driver classification. How many retirees do you see out on the road with a diesel powered motor home (on air) with a class 5 drivers permit. I personally hold a class one drivers permit and have qualified for that permit. Can't say that about Johnny retired mail man driving a Diesel pusher pulling a Hummer behind him

Haha good point ….As any “good” engineer would say. “Paper makes everything safer.”

Today’s 1 ton trucks are capable of handling such large/long loads the only think that makes me worry is the azz hats you see behind the wheel most of the time. The guy probly took his license in a dodge neon went out bought a F-350, 30 ft 5th-wheel and a 21 ft boat and figures he just has to set the cruise. Should almost need your class 1 for anything over 65 ft……..
