running over length doesn't make it unsafe. i hold a class 1 as well and had no problem pulling any type of combo heard of as long as the weights were proper. a 16' 2nd trailer would likely follow better than a short one if loaded right. two long trailers pull better than two short ones. unfortunately the law is the law

Because someone has a class 1 makes them such a better driver then a 5 right? There is no bad drivers with class 1 on the road right?

Class 1, 3, or 5 means fawk all in regards to driving skill, ability, or experience. They hand out a license to anyone who can start the vehicle whether it's a 1, 3, or 5. I am downright scared of a lot of people who have a class 3 and 1, they shouldn't even have a 5.

Lots of good drivers out there with 1, 3 and 5's but just as many bad ones to.

I agree with you there. When I got my class 1 the hardest part was the pre trip inspection. After that it was a short drive out of town, back into an approach from a right angle, and drive back into town. I found it to be quite easy.

Haha good point ….As any “good” engineer would say. “Paper makes everything safer.”

Today’s 1 ton trucks are capable of handling such large/long loads the only think that makes me worry is the azz hats you see behind the wheel most of the time. The guy probly took his license in a dodge neon went out bought a F-350, 30 ft 5th-wheel and a 21 ft boat and figures he just has to set the cruise. Should almost need your class 1 for anything over 65 ft……..

i belive you do to pull dual tarailerslegally anyways. at least that is what i was informed by an rc friend of ours. they just done enforce it hard.

I didn't know about the commercial plate thing. What needs the plate? Truck, 5th wheel and second trailer??

I'm a hair over when I pull my boat but can be legal if I drop the leg. Have never had an issue but I like to be legal. So much so I am considering a new trailer lol.

I have a buddy that has no trucking experience that was riding with me one day. i unloaded the cat and was gonna back the truck in to do a turnaround once i was finished walikng the cat into the bush. i was walking back and he had jumped in the drivers' seat and backed it into a narrow approach and turned it around like a pro. fawk i laughed.

almost anyone can drive one, or get the license. it's what you do after you get that license that separates the wannabes from the real skinners....

Cut a foot out of your boat's hitch...if you can spare it.
