Well, got the only quarter of barley off today, 90bu/ac, pretty happy with that for the type of year we had around the farm, only had to dry 3000bu. Now on to the Wheat, field is soaked, wet spots all over, should be fun with the truck, just about sunk it tonight with full load on

It would be interesting to hear what everybody got for yields this year compared to last year, hay and grain, etc.

Well Sunday was an exciting afternoon...has combining peas on home quarter, noticed white smoke north of me...not good, even worst has it was the other field that we were taking wheat off. Fire had started from an overheated straw chopper shaft...The bearing pillow block had sheared off the bolt's and the spinning shaft was rubbing on the tin throwing sparks. My dad was trying to keep the fire from spreading to neighbors field by running it over with the tractor and combine (using pull type combine). But he made a bad situation worst by doing that. The chaff on the rear tractor axle caught fire in turn melting the plastic diesel return line to the tank. Now it was really spreading. With the help of neighbors we were able to minimize the burn and only lost 3-4 acres off crop...if it has as windy as it was on Friday and Saturday could have been really bad. Would have been worst if it was in the pea field ,that stuff burns like gasoline....

Reminds me of a fire we had in a field afew years ago. We were straight combining wheat, the field was soft and the trucks had to pull out 1/2 loads in order to keep from bogging down. One combine operator overfilled a single axle grain truck and off it went. Soon a fire started from the exhaust and I remember everyone shouting about a fire but nobody said from where the fire was. The truck stopped after trailing fire behind it, all three combines came by with their fire extinguishers out and soon used up. We were stomping the fire, using our jackets to try to put the fire out. The local volunteer fire dept came out with a truck that had no clutch in it so they just drove around unwilling to stop the truck to engage their water pump. Looked like a circus act. Myself and two others ran to the combines to get them out of the field to a nearby summerfallow field. The farm manager showed up with a 4wd tractor that had a blade on the front and he cut a path ahead of the fire to stop it. The wind luckily changed and the fire went back against itself and burnt itself out. Otherwise our crop and the neighbour's standing wheat field would have been lost entirely. We lost a couple acres of standing crop but mostly the stubble was burnt off. No damage to the combines and the truck had no burn damage either. That evening we had the biggest fire extinguishers you could buy mounted to each combine, truck, etc. It could have been a real bad day but luck was on our side.

Hope those out there are able to get more crop off. Hearing too many about crops too wet, not matured and some rot staring. Bad news for what was suppose to be a promising year.

There's nothing cooler than watching a staggered line of combines coming down the field.

Took the kids out to my uncles yesterday and rode with my dad in the combine for a while, the smell and itchiness sure brings back a ton of memories! Less than 4 quaters to go, they should be done by Thursday if the weather holds up.;)

I sure do miss that way of life!

Itchyness?? Close the door on the combine! Should be clean, quiet and itchy free.

That sucks big time, here's the pics of the bailer that burnt up a few days ago due to a bearing issue. We also got lucky.

I have been having a ball helping some of the family grow and harvest their first ever canola crop with the help of some awesome vintage equipment including Versatile 40's, and a Massey 750.

You have the exact combine and swather that my grandpa had. He had two of those 750s but one burnt to the ground about 5 years ago.
