I tell you there is no shortage of Grizz up here. 20yrs ago you would never see them, now it's a common event. The numbers being high seems to have made the bears more aggressive due to the competition for territory. All I see happening is more problem bears in the near future. Sure limit the number of tags issued in low bear population areas, but don't paint the province with the same brush because the number of bears differ from one zone to another.

lets see there is around 2million deer in Alberta and 1000 grizzly
30million deer in the us. They can double in numbers
in 2years left unchecked.

and some guys here cant even find a deer to shoot lol

at work and too hard to type to argue with fools who arguement

is '' I want me a bear rug jumbo"

there could be 1 bear left and some idiot would want to shoot it.

that is why we need the government to stop you idiots.

btw I have guns and I hunt. Grizzly tastes like ****, NO
valid reason to hunt one. If # come up one day
sure open the hunt back up.

Grizzlies have a very very high mortality rate, not many make it
to maturity. I know a lot
about them actually, but no need to get into it with you.

what an assumptive ass you are. Immediately you assume you know more than the wildlife management experts, cause you saw a news report or read a magazine, immediately you assume the issuance of trophy tags is willy nilly and unmanaged, cause you don't like it , you see pictures of a few people posing with their trophy kills and you immediately assume all trophy hunting has no merit or contributes nothing to the wildlife management effort. I'm no trophy hunter, in fact used to hunt lots, hardly hunt at all anymore, but I do have family members with a vested interest in the management of our wildlife and the hunting/trapping issue, so I am exposed to both sides. So you can call people fools, idiots or whatever , and there are some you bet, and while I do respect your right to your opinion, it scares me to imagine we should give credence about the future of our wildlife to someone who works part time and has camped and biked a bit in the mountains in one small area of a province.
Do you trust the government as much to get it right when it comes to restricting sled areas? cause I've sure met a bunch of sledders who I suggest fall into the fool and idiot category. Maybe a gun registry would help ??
I don't know the answers for sure either, but I don't believe the total ceasing of all grizzly tags is a good thing , and the trophy tag thing , I've talked to knowledgable folks who say the income from the tags do justify it, and they're not the hunters .

Lol WHAT AN ASSUMPTIVE ASS YOU ARE. To assume that you have ANY clue you know where I'm coming from, my knowledge on the subject who I know ext ext.

You come at me, with no real clue about who I am and with all sorts of assumptions. Look in the mirror dim wit.

Here Ill lay it out for you in a way you MAY understand.

Think of it like this; say Kim jong il, launches a nuclear attack on North America
and 98% of the habitat and population is wiped off the map.

Very few survive the fallout, just small groups of hillbillies in the mountains
Tinder is long gone and pretty much have to bang your cousin or sister maybe even. Times are tuff...
Only 15,000 left and Predators from outerspace comes in the spring and "culls" 300 or 400
of you to keep numbers in check. They dont like you mofo's ruiting around in the trash looking for garbage to eat.

What is a minimum viable population? Good question. Id say 15,000 has got to be getting down there though.
I know some of you guys may not think inbreeding is a big deal, but evidence shows that it really isn't good for a species.

98% of the grizzly population has been wiped out over the last 200 years. It is unertain they will make it
another 200 years. And Ill go ahead and ASSUME that you don't give a chit.

The problem with this, is that it falls into that same old left wing approach mentality of "I dont like this so YOU shouldnt be allowed to do it". Its the same crap that we face as sledders. Some do gooders with an agenda and too much time on their hands. Apply pressure in the right places and you can make something happen that really affects someone else. Just wish there was equal representation for people on the right. Seems like there are less and less political and key figures willing to stick their necks out against this stuff.

As far as the grizzlies go.....it wouldnt hurt my feelings if they shot every last one of the damn things.

The problem is with some that are too caught up in this right wing, left wing paradigm.
I can form my own opinions.

Want to kill all the bears? I guess that is one opinion. Some would like to get rid of 95% of people on earth too.
Guess that is another opinion.

Another thing occuring up here in the north is the increasing bear populations and the rapidly decreasing ungulate numbers. At one time seeing moose was a common thing and not so much anymore. I finally seen a bull moose last year...it had been over 7yrs since I seen another one. I just drove to whitehorse 2 weeks ago....2 moose....22 bears, 5 of which were grizz. The gov't picks the topics that will produce the most media coverage not what is realistic. Grizz hunting should be LEH and zone specific as to numbers issued. In 200yrs there will be more than just an absence of grizz so why not manage every animal in a sustainable manner. Moose need just as much help but they are not going to see it. People in the south that live in cities are so out of touch with reality.

There is reported 250,000 moose in Alberta and under 1000 grizzly bears. I respect your opinion though Clode, and you may be right.

Every animal needs to be controlled. Four moose were introduced to Newfoundland a century ago and now they have the healthiest population of any province. ( inbreeding ??) Bears and wolfs are predators and they have no predators to control them other then MAN. Yes I agree some areas have lower numbers then others but there are a lot more factors other then hunting. More bears and wolfs means less moose, deer, caribou, elk etc. Just like trapping some people think that should be stopped also. If trapping stops we will have disease take over which will spread to other animals then maybe man. Look at these Elk preserves. We spend millions of dollars raising these Elk just for them to become diseased and no good for anyone. CWD is a big problem in deer and elk in Alberta because of the populations. Hunting and trapping has been around for centuries and animals have done pretty well. Hunters wont wipe out the bears ignorance will.

Bullsh!t there is 250000 moose in Alberta! That's why google sucks people type something in and believe the first thing they see. I spend lots of time in the bush and around different parts of Alberta and don't see moose very often.

And if moose population is as low as you figure should
probably stop hunting those too.

cant find a moose, can't find a deer. I'd say you are not really much of a bushman? Haha

lol maybe I not. Actually where I used to hunt they don't even have a moose hunt there any more do to extremely low populations. But they have a bounty on wolves do to extreme high population! Now there is way more moose in the prairies opposed to the bush, far less predators

true, way more moose on the prairies.

look I don't want to piss you all off too bad.

if you are a trophy bear hunter I am sorry
that your hobby or possibly lively hood
is under attack.

you are a minority though and some times
the masses win these battles.

have a good weekend, I am going to enjoy
some nature now.

No I haven't shot a moose in 16yrs for that very reason, low population. Never killed a deer either since I do not care for the taste. I chose to eat wild meat since it's organic. I get an elk every year since the herd here has stable population where I hunt. We do a lot of predator control to help them out but it's a constant battle (friggan wolves).

It's pretty sad when you shoot an elk and keep a loaded gun ready while dressing the animal because there are so many bears, they hear it as a dinner bell.

No matter what hunters say the greentards haven't a clue. They are the same people against pipelines. The biggest bunch of hypocrites on the planet, eating meat and driving cars....but other people are the problem in their eyes.

Drive the gorge at 2am and see how many grizz there are. Surprised a massive boar at 23. Sow with 2cubs at fifth creek and the biggest friggin black bear I have ever seen at the north fork intersection. This was one night coming in 3weeks ago. Up Petepiece there is probably the largest grizz anyone of us have ever seen. Looks like and old Tacoma going through the bush. His craps are the size of a child. The local trapper was trying to scout new trap lines up there but that bear f'd with him all night he had to bail and he has been trapping up those parts for ever so if he's scared it's a big deal. I just hope if things starting getting out of hand they will reconsider the ban.

Been thinking about this ban on hunting. Maybe it exactly what we need for population control! Control of the granola eating dread lock wearing greenie hippies

Haha...I was thinking the same thing. Just need to take over the leading granola company and start adding grizz pheromones to the mixture.
