My wife has a 1999 Summit 600 and I cannot tell if the grip heaters are working or not. I have tried the heaters on both high and low and still cannot feel any heat. When we got the sled it had aftermarket grips installed that are soft rubber with a “knobber” type end. I am wondering if it is due to the soft rubber material that we cannot feel any heat through the grip. I am also curious if the knobber end on the grip may have damaged the wire leading to the element under the grip. I believe the wire for the grips runs through the bar on this sled? Has anyone had any issues like this with these types of grips or when installing bar hooks? The grips are similar to the EPI ones in the link below. Thanks.

I put the same grips on my 2000 summit 600 and had to replace the warmers so I could re-route the wiring. You should definately be able to feel the heat through the grips.

I do like the grips. How did you re-route the wiring? Pull the old back through the bars then rout on top of the bars?

Pulled one of the grips off to see what condition the warmers were in. I figured out why they were not working... There we no warmers. The wires were taped off inside the end of the bars. I ordered a set of the RSI brand. I heard that they were very good. I will re-route the wires when they arive.

Where do the wires enter the handlebars? Is it best just to zip tie the wires on the outside of the bar all the way up to the new risers? Thanks.

the wires enter the bar at the middle through a slot at the bottom. The factory warmers wires pass through the very end of the bar that has a notch and run inside and exit out the slot in the middle. If the grips you choose have a knob at the end you will have to run the wires on the outside .
