Good on ya girl, but doesn't continually glamorizing a female's participation in an activity, perpetuate the steroyotype by acknowledging it as something unique?

Meh... I initially replied.. I think I'll just sit this one out.

Krista.. Way to get out there and get it done. It takes strength and confidence to tackle your own mods. You are a wonderful and unique person in your own right, let alone the fact that you are a wicked shredder.

Awesome!

I think I understand what you are saying Scott's and on some level I agree. However female exposure in the sport ( wrenching or riding) isn't necessarily a bad thing. I don't think every woman that carves, cat walks or puts in oil necessarily requires a write up, part in a movie or otherwise but when a woman does something that is above the "norm" I would say there is no harm in it being recognized. I'm not saying I'm the first girl to tackle a sled project like mine as I know plenty of ladies that do their own wrenching but I was contacted by Kristen directly and saw no harm in answering some questions and allowing her to put out an article.

As far as women in the riding front go, there are a lot more strong women riders out there that are pushing the envelope and yes I do think they deserve recognition. To name a few; Megan McDougal, Nadia Samer, Julie-Ann Chapman, Ashley-Ann Chaffin, Stephanie LaRoy Schwartz and many more. I look up to other women riders (some that I Haven't mentioned above) because they constantly push themselves. To say that a girl doesn't deserve recognition because she isn't going as big as the guys or whatever is slightly absurd to me. But as I had stated above, just because a woman or girl learns her first downhill carve or catwalk doesn't mean it needs to be on film or in an article. Those are great personal accomplishments.

Also, would you say the same thing if it was a man in an article such as that? I highly doubt it. You'd probably say, "wow look t all the work he did to that sled".

Recognition! isn't necessarily a bad thing, I agree, although anymore its given so freely that many become addicted and whore themselves for it, expecting it for the mundane, never aspiring the truly deserved form.
I belive that you should take great personal pride in your sledding accomplishments at such a young age, its great, just proves to me that there are a lot of women, and men for that matter, that should get off the couch, lose the princess, and get at it!
Im a major nerd, and I watched the shuttle being shuttled(lol) into NYC yesterday with great fascination, Eventhough enterprise never left the atmosphere it and her sister craft represent the most technologically advanced machines built to date. Advanced aircraft piloted by women on occasion, women surgeons, women politicians, fk i honestly belive Hillary is the only person qualified to lead the states, a women last time Bill checked, " hideous"
My point is,it's time to give the women empowerment BS a rest, it's over. I've rode with a lot of people over the years men and women alike and found the ones that can, just do it, those that can't,talk about it.
I may be a real loud mouth on here , worse in real life actually, but I feel I've been a pretty good guide and have took a lot of people, many on this fourm in and safely out of new and often challenging areas for them. This would have been my 20th year riding the mountains and fortyith year actually riding. I have seen one consistent factor in these people. The women that are riding with us very quickly become the mid to upper level of the pack givin any real experience ie. seat time.there are more chickenshit guys than girls. Clearly there are girly girls that should only go to the cabin on a sunny day and that's it..
" for some reason that would usually be the stupid bitch I brought," but I digress,. that's just women. The ones that can do, the ones that want to but can't,talk about it, and a bunch should just stay in jasper and I'll pick up you on my way home.
Such an admirable list of role models is commendable.I don't really know of some of the girls other than what I hear or just as importantly don't. I do know the Leroy's and McDougals have a long history of quietly contributing to the sledding community, particularly revy. But just people that love to ride and would do so if people were watching or not. People that not only put up with tourist's, but show us the country and takes us into their home, or in stephy's case, haul tracker loads of drunk albertans safely back to hotels, that's a few years ago mind you, good people!
As for the man building the mod, been that guy, in the day relatively, now I would say and have.... Fk that!! I want to drive to shell, fuel up my x y z sled grab my cinimon bun and gone. I'm not interested in opening the hood or building a turbo. Never went there to impress anyone, I left that to the country. So mostly when I read the story's of guys building big mods I'm more, Meh!! Whatever,!!!

Like I said I do agree with a lot of things you say, perhaps in different words or terms though lol. Either way the world would be a pretty boring place without conflicting view, ideals or opinions. So thank you for sharing yours. :D

PS. Sorry for not giving a better response but this is a pain in the bum trying to do on my iPhone.

I also don't know what I did to my sled is considered a "mod" or not. I replaced the engine, track, drivers, handle bars, throttle, kill switch, changed the gearing from 19-45 to 22-45, made limiter straps and new holders, dropped the skid down 3/4" and back 1/4", added a drop bracket, rage cage reeds, new float assemblies, wrap kit, vent kit, quick clickers, new shocks & springs, new skis, chain, beter boards, anti stab kit, new seat and fiddled around with the clutches

Good article Rowdy! You better start up a shop or something and make some coin off those talents with a wrench. lol.

First thing to budget for would be a commerical size vacuum sealer and a million bags! LOL :D jk

Congrats on the article Rowdy, Doesnt take long to get to the "big leagues" huh? seems like it was just yesterday you bought a sled and was constantly asking for help and guidance on this site. Sure is nice to see someones hardwork, blood, sweat, and tears turn into something awesome.
