Yes guys i TALKED TO A GUY who got stopped last spring at the weigh scales in March. He said the part that pissed him of was he was on his way home good road conditions and he said that a ticket would have been fine but no they towed his rig and the price went way up. His group has been going to the mountains for 15 yrs plus and didn't realize this law was in affect, since all season tires have been in use for 20yrs plus in the province of sask. This conversation came up from quite a few groups who were in the cabin this winter and I was asked if I had winter tires on but I carrying chains instead which I use if needed . Quite a few groups said they have been sledding valemont for yrs and the police have been putting a bad taste in their mouth because of all the cheap little laws they are inforcing not checking for vin # which would be great but cheap little tickets like HID's so on and so on. This is not coming from one person this is coming from alot of groups of peaple who have been coming from different provinces to sled for yrs. You also don't hear of this happening in Mcbride or other areas. Was in Revelstoke in January and got checked by the RC's for my ID and thats it he didn't go check my tires for the snowflake he just said have a good day. So maybe I painted this stop I seen this weekend with a paint brush but DUI,warrents and such would have the guy in the police car not standing on the side of the road watching his truck being loaded and the police don't sit on the side of the road with their lights on for a tow. It would be interesting to see how many guys have been tagged in the valemont area compared to other areas we ride in. I'm not knocking the work the police do but in this area they seem to be tagging alot of out of province rigs for little petty laws.
Yeah, no idea why he was really pulled over, but we can assume its because he had Alberta plates and sleds.

What a schmuck.

If you really have to speculate, how about the new BC law for speeding? What is it, 40 km over the limit and your vehicle is impounded for 7 days? Not unheard of for a sledder to speed. Maybe DUI, maybe the vehicle was broke down and the officer was helping him out by getting a wrecker out to rescue him?

Nah, schmucks always assume it a conspiracy.

By the way, its an open border, doesnt mean you have to cross it. Stay home and sled in the mountains.

Like they say dot your I's and cross your T's when your in Valemount if they have a reason they will nail you. I agree 100% that the cops there are pickier than other places. As far as picking on Alberta boys think about it if they give you a ticket your going to pay it, why because we all know that money grows on trees in Alberta.......JK its because you'd rather pay it then drive the 1000km(round trip) to show up in court.

I got pulled over last time I was in Vale, my truck has a lift kit that is ridiculous, and my enclosed trailer is also a mobile camp which makes it quite heavy, I do not run mud flaps, my driver and passenger windows are tinted, I have aftermarket head/tail/marker lights, fuel tank in the box, kc offroad lights in the bumper, and I was given a once over, brakes and lights were checked, fairly involved inspection for drugs and alcohol and was informed of the possible tickets for tint and flaps and was told to have a nice trip, chances are they had something unsafe or were being mouthy, I'm sure if I was a dick about the whole stop I coulda been towed but nothing is unsafe on my setup and I went along with his inspection, I'd rather see them pulling us over doing this than meeting some of the retards I have seen in various staging areas with their overly unsafe setups on and off the highways to our favorite spots, of all places Valemount doesn't need any hand outs, you get raped for every cent you spend there, if the snow wasn't so good I would never go back, but it's that good and I have my own accommidations and bring my own supplies now, trail pass is the only thing I am willing to give to that place

I speculate your saying sledders speed and yes I cross the border but I ussualy ride in the mcbride area and alot of other groups are starting to do the same. They find that the valmont area are checking the rigs alot more than other areas and who do u think are losing the sledders or the town peaple who depend on the sledders for the winter. We can always find different areas to ride without worrying about being hassld every time u drive into town. so if I stay home how do I sled in the mountains.

Your not to good at getting points are you, I guess I have to be clearer with you. My point is simple, if you want to come to BC and enjoy what it has to offer, you have to follow BC laws. Its real simple, just follow the law.

Oh and by the way, if you ride in McBride, you still have to pass through the Valemont scale area and put up with the same RCMP and CVSE officers. Kinda funny how that works.

Vote with your wallet. Go to Revy or Sicamous. The police there are more tourist friendly and don't have a chip on there shoulder.

I follow the laws just fine and I'm SURE U DO TO RIGHT it's just the small petty things they are nailing the guys on and I'm sure your rig is perfect all the time and I'm sure u follow the law all the time but peaple are human and they do make mistakes. I'm sure they have lots of small petty laws on the books that we don't know about in alberta so the next time u come to alberta u should check all of our laws to make sure u don't get caught, because ignorance is know excuse for not knowing, I hear this alot do u.

We all get your point....you keep repeating it like a nagging wife......
I think part of the point of his post, douche, was that some cops spend too much time on the little stuff.....nobody disagrees that it is not illegal so get off your high horse!

I know of a cop who gave a farmer a ticket because the farmer did not make a complete stop at a rural stop sign with a combine......a combine going down a rural gravel road.....followed him into the field with the lights flashing and gave him a ticket for not stopping!

Stupid right??? Yah the farmer broke the law but come on....common sense.......

Stop your incessant whining about "it's the law"..."it's the law"....."don't come here if you don't like it".....what are you 10 years old???

They may be like a broken record but they have it figured out. You can come on here and bitch about the cops all you want but it won't change anything. You can even go to McBride instead but guess what you have to drive right past the scales at Tete Jeune and if anything I hear those CVSE guys are worse than the cops. Get it through your head that you need to pay to play, if you don't follow the laws to the T they will fine you. It's not fair but they are small town cops and they would rather pull you over than the locals, because those same locals are their neighbours.

These guys are telling you how to avoid the issue but you don't want to hear it, you just want to come on here and bitch about how the cops are assholes cause they pulled you over for _____ insert infraction here.

I have decided to change my stance. I think that we should just say "fawk them" and run how we want and make sure we make it miserable for any cop that stops us Alberta sledders. I mean really, it's us that makes the world go 'round, right? without our money they would go to hell in a handbasket so we should just do what we want, and make sure they know how important we are. fawk yeah....are you with me guys??
