Hey Guys. A couple of buddies and I were going to try riding quartz on Sat, but now I'm not sure that there is even a way to get up there. Looking at Golden's forecast seems like it should be snowing nicely up top but with +10 and rain in town will there be any snow at the staging area and if not can a guy drive up a ways or is that a no no? You can drive to snow in Sicamous (where I usually ride) but I don't want to piss people of its it not cool to do up Quartz. What elevation is the Quartz staging area at? I've got a new to me 12 pro that I'm itching to ride. Is there any of the other areas that would have a staging area up high enough to ride from? Thanks.

late last season guys were trying to drive up futher but were destroying the road. we sledded on mud for a bit and while loading up could hear them in a big dodge with big lift and big muddys STRUGGLING to get out. the road goes to ch!t big time. maybe it will be firm/frozen but with this much rain ??? the chance of snow at the trail head is nil ... as of 2day. 2moro ??? take your shity sled !!!

We've reluctantly decided to wait a couple more weeks. We've got a trailer with us so driving up the trail wasn't going to work anyways. I like for Nov long to be the first ride too but I've got to work the next 3 weekends after this one, thats why we were trying a week early. Oh well I'll just have to do a mid week ride on Nov.19th then. Thanks guys.

The parking lot a quartz is quite a bit higher than the town of Golden. I have ridden there lots of times when there was not a stich of snow in town and lots at the parking lot.

Rained pretty high up the last week... kinda a bummer but looks like some cooler temps rolling in on Wednesday finally!! It'll be interesting to see how this rain crust will develop our snow pack throughout our season. Because of the warmer temps prior to our first few bigger dumps of snow we have unfrozen ground under the pack, which usually leads to depth hoar. Another layer to keep an eye on. Luckily it seems the alpine (above the trees) has hovered around zero during the daily highs. Can't wait to get out there and poke around and dig some holes!!
