Going to be new to chilliwack

My wife is accepting a position in chilliwack. My dreams of living in BC to sled all winter are finally coming true, however I have a few questions. Where does a guy ride around chilliwack, we r from Lloydminster and typically ride almost anywhere from revy, cranbrooke, fairmont, radium, golden, vale, blue and to mcbride.
are there any good clubs I can join to help out with ?, and good honey holes someone want to tell me about?
and as for the town itself, what about living? Is hope to far to travel, we need at least a 3 bedroom place for the kids, I will be looking to rent something till my house sells before I buy, anyone have connections for a place ?, how is the snow around there, how far do u need to go to find ok riding areas,
i can't wait to move to BC, thanks in advance

Welcome to BC. Chilliwack is a great community and will allow you to feel a bit like home with Agriculture still in the air. A couple good sled shops nearby as well. You will be situated in a prime location for different types of terrain. While I know there is a few real local spots, the most popular for "Coastals" is the Coquihalla summit and anywhere in the Sea to Sky Corridor. Meaning you can drive from Chilliwack to the "Coq" in about 1 hour to a well organized club atmosphere at the 10K staging area. If you want to drive 2 hours you will be in Squamish/Whistler area for a true big mountain experience. Best to pick a blue bird day for that one. If you have never experienced glacier riding its rather impressive and one you won't want to miss. Brandywine, Rutherford, Sproat, Brohm ridge all in that area.
Can also blast across the border to Mount Baker in Washington state. very popular area for Seattle and Washington riders.

Both areas have groomed trails to alpine riding areas and a good sense of Club involvement. Please join a club as we always need membership to maintain and secure these riding areas for years to come.

Welcome to BC. Chilliwack is a great community and will allow you to feel a bit like home with Agriculture still in the air. A couple good sled shops nearby as well. Everything Climbmax said, you will be centralized to some of the best sledding terrain BC has to offer with in a 2 hr drive window. I lived at the coast in my younger years and i return almost every year for a sled trip, the coastal mountains offer a whole new experience that you won't find anywhere else in BC.
Plus its an awesome place for many other out door activities.
Your approx. 20min Hope to Chilliwack.

Yes and you will want a dirt bike, man bike, boat for fishing, and whatever else you like to do on top of all the wicked sledding as stated above.

Easiest for you to access will be the Coq, it's a great club, or Baker. Sea to Sky has amazing riding but it's a journey and you'll have to drive through the city. Hope is commuting distance to Chilliwack but gets a lot more rain.

Culture shock? Lloyd to Chilliwack and the lowermainland of BC? Cant think of a much bigger swing in culture, and frankly Chilliwack is not the winner in this one. Lived there for 10 years, know it well, and yes, it will be a huge culture shock. Why? Lets start simple. Housing. Pace of life. The Asian influence. Indo-Canadain influence. Gangs. Crime. Schooling. Dont listen to these red platted idtiots.? your cloesest spots are MT-Cheam at Cultus Lake and Hemlock near mission. Unfortunately you are still driving 1 hour min in all directions. Yes Glacier on the Washington is epic (1 hour, plus border crossing),Cocuhallia is great (2 hours) mind my spelling and take any chance at clear blue bird weather systems to get to Brandywine-Rutherford (3hours) but multi-day adventures.

As for Chilliwak- it is a **** hole. Dead beat rednicks., drug addicts and wannabe gangsters. Your best bet for renting is any where near the Veddar river. New areas-small houses but good access .lots of new restaurants etc. . All close to awesome fishing, biking and endless adventures at Cultus lake area. Its a good area around the "new Chilliewak/ Veddarb) but you need to find the right neighborhoodto live and the right people to hang out with.

Ive been around that area for 10+ years. I don/t live here but have spent enough time to pass on info, I Know what Im saying and ive spent 20 + years between Banff-Golden-Whistler. Good luck

Just in case you haven't been out of your bubble in awhile Ill fill you in. The asian influence is everywhere, as well as the indo Canadian influence. Gangs are not specific to just the lower mainland as well as crime, lots of reserve population around Lloyd and rural crime is getting out of control........ and we do have gangs here in Alberta, and beyond that. Schooling is essentially the same everywhere, curriculum is standardized across the country and class sizes are swelling all over the country due to way to much immigration and the fact that pretty much everywhere is building big super schools and shutting down the smaller older ones. They may have more traffic that is true. Id gladly take rain over -30 plus the windchill of the bald ass prairie around Lloyd for 5 months a year. As far as smell.....? Been there lots and spent a fair bit of time there as I had family living out there for the last 10-12 years and still have some friends there, and noticed nothing out of the ordinary as far as smell, Lloyd does have a huge Husky upgrader just outside of town and Im sure that thing smells from time to time. And housing.... well Im sure thats an issue in every major center, a bit more $$$$$ out there but that's common knowledge and not a surprise , could be worse and be in the greater Vancouver area. Now as far as a hater of Alberta...... thats common knowledge as well , just go back in the archives of topics surrounding anything oil/Alberta related and you can make your own assumptions

I am in Coquitlam now and grew up in the Prairies. Pro's and con's like anything. Best thing is you don't have to drive 7 hours each direction to sled. We sled most weekends just for the day. Mostly North of Squamish as it is closer for us than the Coq. On the plus, you are only 4 hours to Sicamous.

The only negatives I can think of is housing market and traffic / higher population. The positives on the other hand far outweigh the negatives. The scenery is awesome, unlimited recreation, way better overall weather, close to Washington which in itself is awesome. Close to the ocean so no more dreadfully dry climate, which if you have any skin or breathing issues is a huge bonus. Way better quality produce due to being closer to the source. Soon to have 2 NHL teams within 3 hours, a CFL team an hour away, a professional soccer team if your into that lol, and you have an NFL and an MLB team in Seattle as well. Closer to an international airport which is a bonus if you like to travel at all. The list goes on and on. Im sure there are better places close to Chilliwack to live than in Chilliwack but Im sure the OP isnt a dummy and will research where to buy a house and go from there. Enjoy the move, Im jealous, always wanted to live out that way

Love the comments about chilliwack lol I live in abbotsford but have a place in chilliwack as well and I have to say chilliwack is much nicer in my opinion, as long as u stay on the south side of the highway ! anything in sardis or near veddar will be much nicer for u!
If u ever want someone to show u a close sledding spot let me know! U are only 30 mins away from mt cheam and as long as the snow level is low enough the riding there is small but always seems to be twice as deep as the coq! Im also a member of coqsnow and it is the simplest to access because its right off the highway 5 and they have a awesome website that is always updated and cameras to check out the riding areas snow condiotions!
One more note gangs, poverty, welfare cases are everywhere in the lower mainland! anyone who thinks not probably doesnt live around here !

Reading your message makes me wonder if its not me who need to get out of their bubble. My fathers side of the family is from the Lloyd area, still have family in the region, out that way reasonably often, lived in Chilliwack for 10 years, also have friends and family in that area as well, pass through fairly regularly, and yup, it would be naive to think there wont be a major culture shock. The 2 areas are like night and day. For each their own.

Please do. Post the links. I was and am an avidly against anything to do with dead Northern Gateway project and stand by everything I have ever said about that project, it was a horrible idea with horrible attempts to push it through. Other than that I have never said one work against Trans Mountain and never will. Two very different projects with very different problems. As for anything else from Alberta I dont have a problem telling anybody that they are a stupid idiot no matter if they are from Alberta, BC or anywhere else on the face of the earth. As for having a problem with Alberta, I guess that more of a figment of your imagination than anything else.

I find it very ironic that you call me an Alberta hater in a thread where I am calling down something in BC. I find that very interesting and just maybe shows a bit about you?
