100% correct and wait ands see the US will be facing the same with their current deficit ballooning. Don't understand these politicians thinking they can spend their way to prosperity but eventually someone has to pay the piper.

That's because government doesn't understand the concept of anyone actually basing their decisions on making a profit. Government thinking is that it's okay to go in the red every year with no consequences. It's just like the government deficits that are run up every year with no real intention of ever dealing with them.

I like the image of the economy as a carbureted two stroke engine. If you want it to last, leave it slightly on the rich side. Lean it out and it is amazing right till melt down. Canada's engine always runs rich and is currently moving toward flooding. The US engine is screaming and overheating.... Both are running up mind numbing deficits. Oh well. SFA any of us can do in the short term. We will just have to wait for the next election.

The big concern over 2500 auto workers is a little disconcerting. Where is the push over all of the oil patch workers in Alberta losing their jobs. 110,000 and counting...............Friggin' easterners.
Total impact will be more like 25,000 when you factor in supporting jobs. Still pales in comparison to the oil industry though.

In them hills.
It is a big deal.
So was and is the oilfield.

The bigger deal is our government only cares about the one industry.

Ironically they are to blame as no corporation wants to play in this tax stew they have concocted.

Ok, I'll say it. The Gov't isn't to blame for the Oshawa closure. The plant has been under-utilized for years which means big overhead costs but few units produced to allocate that cost too. Also GM is also closing 4 plants in the US which has the most advantageous tax laws in years. Doug Ford went to GM and said what can we the gov't do to change your mind and they said nothing. It's purely a business play.

so if government not to blame how come no closures in China or Mexico?

one of the reasons is salaries. No matter how much money anyone pours into manufacturing whether government or otherwise, you cannot offset for low wages. As a matter of fact, China is now facing the same situation as companies are moving out of China and setting up shop in Vietnam, Cambodia and India where wages are even cheaper yet.

True, but all the crazy talk around the $150+ carbon tax I'm sure didn't help.

With the big GM announcement and the energy crisis in Canada, the heads of government met today to discuss the francophone situation in Ontario. Couldn't believe it!

The leadership of the country is sure out of touch with what drives everything. I guess we can't expect much more from a part-time drama teacher.
