I liked my XM summit but I got the short track 146 inch with it due to the thought I would ride closer to home and more trails. I snowchecked a 165 inch though as I did very little trail riding near home the last 3 years. I only rode one G4 last winter for about 10 minutes, then I finished off the season on my XM. I really like the XM on the trails, the bottom end power and the clutching you can make a turn and just pin it and it would launch. I know some of that was due to the short track but I am wondering just how the new sleds perform compared to the XM. We were in deep snow when I rode the new one and tight trails. I liked how it handled in the snow but I never rode it on a trail.

Everyone says how trails aren't for mountain sleds and I agree but we all have to do a bunch of trails to get to the play areas and I actually had a blast on the trails. Are the G4s just as good on the trails as the XMs are or is it night and day different?

850 is so much fun on the trails, it has so much power, full throttle out of the corners on an 850 is going to make you smile for sure.. Front end doesn't dive as hard either so easier on your upper body if the trail is whooped..
I find the chassis so much easier to ride i save energy for extra ride time during the day, less times your stuck or fighting a machine less energy you have for sleddin..

The G4 was a supperior weapon in all aspects of performance to the 14XM I had when on top the mountain. 163XM vs 165 G4.
G4 was more tippy in the corners for sure on the trail but both about the same everywhere else on the trail.
Maintenance/durability along with gas/oil/belts - the XM was the hands down easy no contest winner.
In the end though the G4 was a more fun to ride sled in the deep.

I would agree with this.

In response to the OP's question about bottom end the G4 throttle response is so quick it makes the old 800 feel like a 600.
