Fuel mileage

Thinking about buying a 2008 F350, heard they get horrible fuel mileage.
Can anyone tell me any different or what kind of mileage they have been getting? So many K per tank. Thanks in advance.

You are gonna get answers all over the place. Anywhere from 12 to 20 mpg empty on the highway and 6 to 12 pulling a trailer on the highway.

On average I get 15 l/100km or about 750 - 800 Km per tank on the highway empty.

In town empty I average 19l/100 Km

Highway towing 8000# with two quads on the sled deck I get anywhere from 19l/100Km to 26l/100km depending on the speed I am travelling. Going over 115 - 120km/h it gets worse - pushing 28 -30l/100

Best I have got was between North Battleford and Lloydminister driving empty on freezing rain at 80 km/h in 4X4. I got 10.3l/100km

All the above numbers are hand calculated.

Worst I got was pulling my trailer from Castrol Speedway to Edson in a bad wind storm at 10-15km over the posted limit the whole way. I got 43l/100km according to the lie-o-meter. I didn't hand calculate that trip as I didn't want to know.

My lie-o-meter is anywhere from 2l/100km high to 1l/100km low. When I put the lie-o-meter into mpg mode it either reads high for US gallons or really low for Imperial gallons so I am not sure which one it's suppose to be. The boost gauge is a better indicator than the lie-o-meter. Generally if you can keep the boost to 10 psi or less than milage is not that bad; 10-20 psi gets in the range of not great; 20-30psi the milage sucks; anything over 30 psi... well that will put you somewhere south of 8mpg.

I was repeatedly told when I bought the truck I would only get 15 mpg on the highway empty. So, I am happy with 17-18 mpg I get. This is the same milage I get with the Dakota running the highway empty.

Hi there , just my 2 pennies on this , I had a new 08 ford f250 diesel and it was a great truck except for the fuel . It would burn a tank to cow town from devon . Or a tank to GP , and that was driving at speed limits . And it was in to ford a few times and they said just wait and see if it gets better . it did not , but i only had 45k on it so who knows . I did like the rest of the truck though . On the Dodge side , i have a 05 2500 and pulling a loaded toy hauler it only gets 15/18 without the chip , one of the boys has a 07 chevy diesel and he gets the same as I do with the same type of set up .So i think it is just about the same across the board . Lots of guys add a few to make it look like they get crazy #s but whatever facts r facts . I think if you like the truck , buy it .

If you delete all the emission crap in the exhaust system you will find that your fuel milage gets way better.

Garyese sounds like he's doing well. That's roughly what I get in my Chevy, on a lift, 35"MT's, and some added power.

I have that same truck your lookin at. I had never owned a Ford. Thought I would give it a go. I really like the truck, and haul heavy loads at times. Strong truck. But. And you know what that means.. mpg SUCKS. From what other guys have told me the other brands are all about the same nowadays.
Just don't get sucked in from any of aftermarket guys telling you that they will increase your mpg if you put this on or take that off. Been there done that didn't change a thing. 100k on her now.
Chipped, Cold Air Intake and removed the DPF spent about $2500.00. Drive it and keep your cash in your pocket. Good Luck... I think you will be pretty happy with it.

The older trucks were better on fuel. And you're right, anyone who says their Ford has more power than your stocker is full of it!!

First you must be 75 feet long.....

Have you every looked in the drivers door panel and check your GCVW for a 2500... you must be over your GCVW by 5000 or 6000 lbs

Max truck is 9600lbs which includes the 2000lbs of trailer wieght in the truck box and Max trailer towing weight rating on 2500 is only 13,000 lbs ...
Gross Combined Vehicle Weight is only 23,000lbs

I run an 06 2500hd diesel with deck 2-quads and 24 foot holiday trailer and am max on weight rating

Mileage - best 22Ltr (10mpg) & worst 28ltr/100 (8mpg) pulling the quads and trailer --other wise 17ltr/100 (13mpg) empty


We have 2 - 2006 2500 GMC Duramax's and 1 - 2008 Ford F350 diesel - and a trip from Edmonton to Blue River loaded all 3 trucks run almost the same mileage after 2 year comparison

- speed is always the deciding factor (but pulling an enclosed trailer against the wind is also a huge contributor)
- 100km on cruise - best milage you can expect (20-24ltr/100)
- 110-120km drop mileage drops sharply (25-29ltr/100)
- 120-130km - forget it you can see the gauge dropping (over 30ltr/100)

I have a 08 f350 crew cab and it was getting 24-30l/100km. I since installed the dpf/cat delete and SCT tuner with race tune and now get 8l/100km on the highway and 12l/100km in town. I tuned it down to pull my boat to golden and got 16l/100km. I also hae a stock 08 for a work truck and it can only get 24l/100km on a good day. I pull a 12500lb trailer with it and get 30-33l/100km. This is why ford is dumping this engine i think!

You need to do way more research, Ford and International are not working together anymore, mostly due to the fact that the 6.0L was a dismal failure. Ford pissed on IH, IH shot back, bam no body loves anybody anymore.

Anyways Ford has developed a new in house diesel that is called a scorpion and it sounds pretty impressive so far. Get all the emissions crap off it and she is going to haul ass.

Regarding your mileage, you are on heroin. There is no way that you increased your mileage by 3 times by adding a tuner. Hand calculate and you will likely find that you gained 1-3 MPG. If you can keep your foot out of it. Speaking from experience here, I have run a SCT with DPF delete and currently have a spartan DPF delete. Tuners mess with all your programming and fuel rates, my display says I get 13L/100 km. (I wish)

Your all lucky..... in my 89 chevy 3500 ext. cab 454, 4-speed I get 41.5L/100km empty and 54L/100km loaded.....maybe I need a diesel

i have a 2009 f350 crewcab 4x4 with the V10
average is 22l/100km empty and 30l/100km pulling 27 ft trailer with a quad a bike on the sled deck only have 3500 km on the truck though so far
a guy stoped me the other day and asked me about the v10 mileage as he was pissed about what his stock 08 6.4 was getting he said he was getting 22l/100 empty and 29l/100 towing with only about 28000 km on the truck so hardly broken in

I never said that Ford did not make the 6.4L I am well aware that they did, the new 6.7L scorpion is the in house engine.
