So Frickin' what? Does it really matter? Do we really need to be pissed off at something all the time? Guys are starting to sound like Quebecers, whining all the time about nothing.........

Olympics are an international event. The protocol is all dictated by the International Olympic Committee. Historically, French is the language of world diplomacy and has always been the primary language at the Olympics. Has nothing to do with Quebec.

It's a worldwide event. Just happy to see it in Canada again! Can't wait to see the Canadians walk out.

Must have been tough for the people from Georgia to walk out there. Don't think they cared which language was spoken first.

Who's pissed off other than you? All I did was as a simple question. If you don't like it, don't respond to the thread.

just blew a head gasket over the same BS. was gonna watch opening ceremonies with the better half and this is the crap I have to put up with. France would be speaking German if it weren't for the Canadian And English forces coming in and saving them from the German invasion. Now the French in Canada have the nerve to impose their language as an accepted second language in this country.

OK so maybe you have the right (privilege) to speak your language in Canada. But so do the the other founding father of this country. I am appalled by our government to cave to those that we rescued from their existence. Our French Canadians show an arrogance that soils the gratitude that their ancestors in France showed to us we we saved them from German invasion.

I may be a bit biased in this post but WTF

And what about that AWFUL rendition of "Oh Canada" It is not a 'pop" song.
Other than that it is great to watch, especially with the Native touch.

x2. Didn't care for the make believe anthem, but the native tribute was awesome.

WOW, someone has their head up their @ss. Read up a few posts, French in the official language of the Olympics. Thus they speak french. Last I checked Canada had 2 official languages, ( english and french ) and both were represented. If you don't like it, write your local MP.

Pickup a history book and take a read. The Constitution Act, 1982 entrenched stronger and more detailed guarantees for the equal status of the two official languages of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Sections 16-19 guarantee the equal status of both languages in Parliament, in all federal government institutions, and in federal courts. These sections also mandate that all statutes, records and journals of Parliament be published in both languages, with the English and French versions both holding equal status before the courts.

I'm pretty sure the french were here in Canada before the German rolled into Paris too. :d

Pipes is normally a smart guy, but obviously not very good at history. Don't understand why he would type out a reply that insults; his local community (Bonnyville is French), his local sled dealer (French), the Canadian armed forces (majority French) and his own country.
